Special characters are being used in the Windows Registry

    I just stumbled across this
Special characters are being used in the Windows Registry-special-characters-being-used-windows-registry.png

I found this explanation for it Emojis are being used in the Windows Registry - TWC so it does not seem to be malign.

They export in .reg format without any problems

Thought you might like to know,

    VERY interesting Denis.

I will have to have a look at mine.

I do NOT like the idea of that though because of it being the Registry.

What does it show for them if you Export the Registry Key, as opposed to viewing it on screen, is it the same as your image and the link?

    Paul,

Thanks for the reminder. I had intended to show that as well but forgot. Now added to my OP.

    All the best,

When you try to Export the Globe key, it says the path does not exists.
It may use the Globe icon for a Font that is not in the Font list?

Very strange. I have just tested it on mine, and I get EXACTLY the same as Denis . . .

You are exporting by right-clicking on the Key and selecting Export?
I have not tried using Reg Export command for this. Naturally, I'd have to export the whole of the International Key if I did it this way because the globes would not render correctly in a cmd/PS window.

Neither have I. Sorry, I just automatically put the output in Code Tags.

    I tried Exporting it and I can't seem to ! . . .

    Code:

    REG Export "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\" "%UserProfile%\Desktop\Globe_Key.reg"

ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.

    Paul,

I'm getting the same syntax error response even if I try to export a level up to avoid special characters in the command [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\].
Spunk was getting a different error.

    The normal syntax is
    REG Export "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\" "%UserProfile%\Desktop\Globe_Key.reg"
i.e. the output file is necessarily specified as part of the command not as a redirection.
    - I tried HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International or was it HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\
    - This normal syntax is what I use in some other routine Registry exports without any problems.

    You are quite right Denis.

I tried a few variations to get it to work and posted the wrong one [ corrected above ].

    I even tried escaping [ ^ ] the and using \*.

This is one reason I posted this . . .

It obviously works if you Export the Registry Key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International.
