Thank you. I wondered about that, but click dragging on the right doesn't seem to work Unless I'm doing it wrong? On the left, arrows appear so you know when to click drag. Doesn't seem to do that on the right. I think the top bar (with "Documents" in on those screenshots) - also seems longer - again maybe I'm imagining it being different. Seems unnecessarily long.

Excellent tip about resizing folders, thank you.

    You're welcome. =)

And that's a little strange that resizing the folder doesn't work. I'll link you to a video showing what I'm talking about by resizing the folder. It's a really short section of the video:
5 How To Resize Windows For Windows 10 - YouTube
    Hopefully that works.

But if the Control + Scroll Up/Down works for you (which is what I would recommend anyways), then stick with this method. You can really customize the view of your folders and everything using this method.

But I'm a little confused by what you mean with the Documents thing that you're talking about. You don't mind posting another screenshot with like adding a square of what you're referring to, or an arrow pointing to what you're referring to, etc?

Directly above the folders are two bars. On the right the shorter "search" bar - on the left the one that says This PC/Documents - very long bar. I am sure it didn't used to be so far over to the left or so long. I am sure some things have changed since January because I noticed also when scrolling up and down through folders, a little label appears with the name of the first (or last?) folder in that row.

It's starting to look more like Windows 11.

Nope resizing doesn't work - nothing to grab on - nothing happens.

    Hi there
often an easy way -- simply ctrl on keyboard + scroll mouse wheel should change sizes etc.

    Cheers

    Hazel,

I don't think Compact mode fits your problem description anyway but, to avoid confusion, please note that Compact mode does not yet exist. It's a possibility for future builds.

    Denis
Compact view comes with Win11 and is on File Explorer's View on the Toolbar.

Sounds like the on-hover "tooltip" produced by "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items" which has been the unchanged default for decades (XP/7/10/11):

Okay I see what you're referring to. The two boxes up there; The Address Bar & the Search Bar. So one thing is that you can compensate the sizes of those two: if you make one bigger, the other will get smaller, and vice versa. If you place your mouse exactly at a certain area, like in the photo, you will get an icon similar to this one:

Click-drag to the left & right. You can resize.

And about resizing the whole window itself, I find that weird. There is an exact small vertical line of pixels that the mouse will be able to resize the window (same thing with what I just stated above). It has gotten worse over the years. It used to be simpler to find that location to resize the window. Don't know why Microsoft is making it slightly more difficult.

Thanks all. I have no idea why it looks different after years of using windows 10! And I had never seen the tooltip before either. Thanks for the link.

All I can think is - this laptop was new to me in January and I have only just installed files onto it. So maybe something about the laptop itself (specific sizing of items and so on) is what's different. Playing around with settings just doesn't quite seem to get what I recognise. But what the heck. Scale and layout are as "recommended" which is 150%. Increasing that makes everything too big.

Grab and resizing works on internet windows but can't seem to do it on file explorer. Address bar and search bar resized - thanks!
