    UsbUpdate.exe Error

For the last three of four days, I've been getting multiple errors when I check reliability and problems via the control panel with the following name: USBIEUpdate. In the event viewer it lists it as UsbUpdate.exe and refers to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\invF53C_tmp\Executables\UsbUpdate.exe. When I go to File Explorer, the C:\Windows\Temp is empty. My pc is up to date and clean. I seem to remember that Edge did an update a few days ago. Can someone please point me in the right direction to correct this. Thanks in advance.

This thread should be the right one for you:

    Dell needs to fix that.

I stopped dell supportassist from running and disabled it at startup. I'll check again tomorrow for crashes. If they do stop, how will I know if and when Dell issues a fix?

So far, the crashes have stopped. I keep checking daily.

I have no idea if the program updates itself automatically when a new version is available, but I think there will definitely be an info in the linked thread when the bug is fixed.

There is an entry in your task scheduler called "Dell SupportAssistAgent AutoUpdate" that runs weekly to fetch an updated Support Assist. Not saying this will fix this issue but just FYI.
BTW, I've decided to simply do away with Dell Support Assist by uninstalling it as well as the Support Assist OS Recovery OS since I use Macrium to make periodic backups. I've also uninstalled the Dell Customer Connect while I was at it.
I doubt that Dell will fix this since their Alienware Command program has been broken for several years and they've never acknowledged nor made an effort to fix it.

    Hi RichardC:

According to employee DELL-Chris M's 09-Jun-2022 post in LittleMaui's Inspiron 3891, Event Viewer Error - Usbupdate.exe Fails (referenced in post # 2 by Tekkie Boy):

"We have been told the the fix will be an automated update push through SupportAssist."

I had the same issue on my Dell Inspiron 5584 - see my 08-Jun-2022 post <here> in LittleMaui's thread. Many users, including myself, have found that these UsbUpdate.exe errors have now stopped, but the version numbers of SupportAssist, Dell Update and my other Dell utilities have not changed and Dell has not explained how users can confirm that the fix has been applied to their system.

My best guess is that an updated UsbUpdate.exe was pushed out to my system after I launched SupportAssist on 09-Jun-2022 (i.e., during the initial self-check for an active internet connection and any available SupportAssist update) but I really have no idea why the errors suddenly stopped on my system.

Thanks all for the input. Since stopping it and disabled at start up, I've had no errors. I'll restart it to see it Dell will download a fix. Let you know later.

    Hi RichardC:

Employee DELL-Chris M posted today in LittleMaui's Inspiron 3891, Event Viewer Error - Usbupdate.exe Fails that "There will be no notification of any sort. The OTA (over the air) update is going to happen for all Dell remediation services (SupportAssist, Alienware Update, Dell Update)."

As far as I can tell the fix will be pushed out silently after you launch your SupportAssist (or whatever Dell update utility you use to check for updates for your Dell software and drivers). The only way you will be able to tell if you received the fix is if Windows Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer stop logging the USBIEUpdate / UsbUpdate.exe errors.

As previously noted, these errors seemed to stop on my own Inspiron 5584 about four days ago.
