Even fresh air will soon get monetized too.
After over 45 years with Windows... I had the very first ones... With ms-dos executive etc...
But I.. just cant subscribe... As a good player who paid every time for a Retail licenses. I would not be happy to see them refused to activate...
But at the moment W7 is still a Freaking good option if you like to get things done fast... Some of my old customer paid extra $$$ to have it on 11th gen machines... And I must admit... I never seen Photoshop get kicked that way...
Also have one that uses an older version of Autocad and W7 really shines at rendering 3d stuff as a light weight OS compared to W10... These guys runs their development on w7 local and do their day-to-day stuff via a W10 Terminal Server.
And the comment that always comes back is...
Fast !
Agree w7 was pretty good. w10 is more bloated everyday. And don't get me started about w11.
I do not know why people rave over W7 - poor driver support, no secure boot, can't mount isos natively, hyper-v barely works, things like task manager, print manager are flakey. Nostalgia has a funny way of making people deny reality LOL.
Re. Windows 12 - it rather presupposes the world all has great internet, but that is still decades away.
Since this is still a little

On the other hand a cloud based operating system could process all data in the cloud with a gazillion cores and deliver the results in nano second to the "Thin client" on the other side... Well geared this could bring much longer battery life... Nearly unlimited disk space. And the capacity to run applications that are impossible to run "in a smart Phone"...
You can then create a rock solid, disposable, cheap, standardized platform to use it...
You will then, with your Credentials and a well payed subscription, have access to X number of cores that are spread over your devices as they need it... Want more cores, more space... Upgrade your subscription.
I can see... Children hijacking their parents accounts to have more cores while playing games or by starting an "In Cloud" Mining project. Resulting lawsuits for hijacking 208 thousands cores. And growing, since IT department has not found how it done yet...

Not something I'm even remotely interested in. My XBOX has a fit when we lose Internet, won't even let me look at my security camera streams that are all local on the LAN side of my network. Just keeps prompting to check your connection etc. Can't play any games that have DRM that phones home, etc.
Didn't like Windows 7, or XP. My all time favorite Windows OS would be Windows 2000. Uncluttered IMHO, and played games well.
