In the bottom left search box, start typing in ---reliability history ---and after a couple of letters,a box should appear, allowing you to enter.
Just take your time and slowly go through it.
With regards to which option is more suitable, only trial and error will tell. I'm not familiar with Steel,so cannot offer an opinion.
For items which you don't understand, slowly read through each one and search the internet to expand your knowledge.A good starting point is docs.microsoft.
It is advisable to at least create a restore point and infinitely better to use Macrium Reflect, free or paid,to make an image prior to investigating unfamiliar subjects.Macrium provide an excellent User Manual.
Theory is fine, practice makes it stick.
Alright, I went though all the of the critical events as they are described as and none of them are related to SteelSeries or the mouse, they all describe a somewhat recent Microsoft store application update failure (which I remember and was resolved shortly after) and an Xbox Game Bar connection issue which I had also resolved not too long ago.
    I looked a month back.

Can you boot your PC from an external device and see whether the same will happen?
I'll have to look up how to do that first.

    Hi Mesmerrow

    Welcome to Ten Forums.

I've played this game before and still have the ancient crappy failing mouse attached to an old laptop.

I've successfully used this app called Click Fix and the mouse is still working correctly, years later.

ClickFix - Stop unwanted double clicks (Windows Only)

Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you'll find a test button to proof the performance of your mouse.

This is how my working mouse functions using this test.

    Attachment 363186
(each mouse down signal is followed by only 1 mouse up signal. These results above are a result of multiple single clicks.)

Depending on the point of failure, be it mouse hardware, driver related or otherwise, the above may not be the solution for your issue.

As previously mentioned by other members, this link has directions for the ABC solutions.

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/fix-do...mouse-windows/
    Thanks for the welcome.

I ran a test and here are the results:
Double Click (Mouse and or Computer Issue)-click-test.png
As you can see this is the result of a single click and it looks perfectly fine, I tried multiple times but nothing out of the ordinary happened.
I'll take a look the link with solutions you provided in a moment.

maybe a stupid question ,but have you tried another mouse ?
Not a stupid question at all and I wish I could but I only own 1 wired mouse and 2 wireless so I am not sure I could reliably replicate the issue with a wireless mouse.

Yes I am that member. My earlier suggestion mitigated it for a while but a replacement was needed in the end. Interestingly it was double posts on this forum that first showed the problem. I kept getting the "you have to wait one minute between posts" message.
Might be the case for me as well, after all the mouse in question is 5 years old and it has seen plenty of video game and work related use.

I don't think I've had a mouse that's lasted more than five years of continual use.

    @Masmerrow,

At this point, my friend, I would advise that you pony up for a new mouse.

Just a suggestion, take it with a grain of salt.

I still, wish you the best. WXC

    You're most welcome

I must apologize for not being more direct.

Try downloading and installing the ClickFix app to see if it can correct the fault. The mouse on my old laptop is about 13 years old and seems to function just fine while running the ClickFix app at startup.

If I recall correctly, old dirty mouse switches suffer from a latency issue that creates a long pulse width, fooling the PC into thinking the button has been pressed twice, hence the double click fault. The ClickFix app is a software solution to solve a hardware fault.

Somewhere I've seen a test app that measures the actual pulse width or latency. I'll try to dig it up later and post. Time for vittles now.

Sorry should have added that the mouse in question while it has seen a good deal of use over the 5 years, it has not been on a daily basis or for long stretches of time per day as I have another desktop computer with it's own set of mouse, keyboard and what not, but in the end yeah, 5 years is a long time.

You are most likely right, although I would have no idea what to go for in 2022 haha, 5 years ago when I bought the SteelSeries Rival 700 it was a really good mouse at the time.

Sorry, brother, can't help you there.

I've been using the same wired Dell mouse for the past 10 years (LOL). Needless to say, I'm not a Gamer. But there are many here. You might ask in the 'Gaming' sub-forum.

I'm confident someone there could suggest something for you.

And don't worry, if that is not the proper forum for your question, one of the Mods will move it to a sub-forum that it is more likely to receive replies.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll most likely make another thread in that case.

Alright this did it!, the issue (so far) seems to have gone away, huge thanks!
However I'll have to wait another day at most before closing down this thread just in case the issue happens again.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks everyone!
I'll be taking a look at all the solutions posted in this thread that I didn't get to try out in case this happens in the future again, that way I'll be ready if the same issue arise in the future.
Thanks again and sorry if I didn't reply to you in time, do know that I'll be taking a look at all of your solutions.
