When you have the opportunity perform the following steps:

    1) Run Windows updates > post images for any error messages or codes

    2) Run Microsoft Defender updates > post images for any error messages or codes

    3) Run this script (it took nearly one hour on the prior installation)
    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...p_plus_log.bat
Post results using [code] or post a share link.

    4) Run:
    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...iskparinfo.bat
Post results using [code] or post a share link.

    5) Crucial Scanner > post a URL for the webpage results
Crucial System Scanner | Memory Upgrade Scanner | Crucial

    6) Install HP Windows diagnostics:
    https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp138...0/sp138803.exe

    7) Post an image of Disk management:
    a) widen these rows: disk 0, disk 1, etc. > make sure that no characters are cut off
    b) widen these columns: Volume and Status > make sure that no characters are cut off
How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management

The computer doesn’t belong to me. I would not have something so old. But I’m wondering if I should just tell my friend/customer to buy her a new one or have me build her one? Can I reuse the case of this one? Because this has been a lot of work.

HP did not support the computer beyond Windows 7.
There were no tested drivers for Windows 8 or 10 available.

It likely will cost more at a repair shop than what the computer is worth.
The question would be if they have any old parts lying around.

It would be best to invest time and money in another computer if there are display problems.

You can try the Microsoft Windows 7 drivers and there may be some luck?

See if you can install and run the HP hardware diagnostics.
There is a link for Windows.
There is also a UEFI link which can be installed on a flash drive or installed on the computer.
It can be added to the bootable MCT or another bootable flash drive that has free space.

Sure wish I could take it back to Windows 7. Microsoft doesn’t support it anymore. It’s just giving me a headache dealing with it.

Test the hardware with the HP diagnostics.
If it fails then the decision is easy.
If it passes then decide whether its worth your time to test drive different driver versions.

I have an old HP P6703 as an office computer which I pulled out of a dumpster. It wasn’t working when I got it so I opened it up and cleaned it and saw the SATA cable popped off. I installed as 250GB SSD as the OS drive and wiped the HD for use as a data drive. I did a clean install of Win10 and it works great for MS Office and web browsing. The only driver Win10 didn’t find was for an eSATA adaptor I added to do backups
