hey sorry to hijack this, but after all my cleanups (including shadows and cleanup disk), I still got one BIG folder with 140K files left in servicing/LCU...
is it normal? will this folder will be auto-deleted after the next servicing updates?
thanks
Yes, this is normal. By default Windows Update retains the three most recent CU packages in the LCU folder. After Disk Clean-up has cleaned up Windows Updates you will be left with just the most recent CU package.
You can if you wish delete this package folder yourself. It is quite safe to do so, but you will no longer have the option to uninstall the latest cumulative update once you have done so.
Hello,
does anyone know what function the folder actually has?
As already mentioned a Update Cleanup deletes all but one folder.
I was left with "C:\Windows\servicing\LCU\Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~19041.1826.1.8".
As a test (on Build 1826) I deleted the folder and installed the current LCU (Build 1889).
After that - to my suprise - I was able to uninstall the LCU and rollback to 1826.
So maybe the folder is not for future rollbacks but for current ones?
Which is why, in a second test I installed the current LCU (Build 1889), deleted the (only) folder under LCU and still could rollback to 1826.
So what is the purpose of the folder if the contents are apparently not needed at all?
Thanks and greetings,
Martin
