Unable to restart or shutdown from Start button

I have a laptop running Win11 Home Insider Edition. Intel i7 CPU, SSD, 8Gb RAM.

Recently, I've become unable to shut down or restart from the Start button. When I click it, I do get the Win11 menu but as soon as I move the mouse to the power icon, it disappears.

Also, I am unable to get the context menu when I right-click the Start button.

I am able to get a dialog box when pressing Control-Alt-Delete, so I can get Task Manager and the shutdown menues that way.

I have run SFC /SCANNOW, but it didn't find any problems.

TIA for any help with this.

    Ken

    Hi.

    Windows 11 insider?

May I suggest reposting your question in the sister site:

    Windows 11 Forum

    See if that works.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello

    Wired or USB mouse?

Try creating another Administrator or User account and see if the problem persists.

    Thanks for your response, Pluginz.

I have a Logitech WIRELESS mouse.

That is probably not causing it, because I have had the same mouse since I got this laptop. I believe the most likely cause is what an earlier respondent mentioned. This build is a known cause of this problem. I'm either gonna wait for the next Insider Dev build or just do a clean install of Win10.

Also, what would I gain by creating another Admin account? Another non-Admin user?

    Thanks again.

It was only a check to see if there was a File Explorer permission issue.
Its just my way of process of elimination

Try cleaning out your 'Temp' folder in the Windows directory and do a reboot.
