    How large is the iso. Was it intended for a doublesided disk?
    I suppose that you mean double layer?

    I have some old two sided DVDs. Fullscreen (4:3) on one side, widescreen on the other.

    @Ghot The ISO was created with DVDFab, so no DRM.
    Thanks for all this time you've spent.

    That's not necessarily true. I don't care how you made the ISO... it's still an ISO of a film, correct?
    Some DRM could survive ripping and/or pirating.
    And some DRM doesn't care if you "play" a movie", but won't let you burn copies of it.

    I'm not saying that's what's happening, just that you need to consider the possibility.

    I used ImageBurn to make an ISO on my HDD. Transfering the ISO to the DVD-R you can use the standard Windows techniques (moving or right click on the ISO, burn to).

    I assume when you say ImageBurn you are referring to (Imgburn)
    Imgburn is excellent for making an iso from dvds despite a message saying it can't read protected disks. Your finished iso would be intended for a double layer disk. Imgburn makes an iso of the whole dvd which is way over the -R dvds size of 4gbs. I can tell you how to burn your movie using Imgburn but I'm not sure if copying protected dvds infringes on Windows 10 guidlines.

    Thanks. The discs are 4.7 GB, so, I thought 4.2 GBs would fit. The disc I'm trying to copy is a DVD-R also and contains only the film without menus or extras. I do have some DL discs, but haven't tried one under the assumption that DVDFAb would make the film fit the disc and not be bothered by any persistent DRM, but it failed to burn the disc just as ImgBurn did.The log file reads "Write error at 2122400 (16) - Code 05 30 05 [Illegal request, Cannot write medium, Incompatible format]" and then "WRITE FAILED: write error occured near the end at sector 2122416 / 2190672."
    @bobkn Thanks!
    @Ghot Thanks!
    @over70 Thanks! @PiKo Thanks!

    Thanks. Yes, I've used both of those in the past, but I've been ripping with DVDFab to discs from one spindle of Verbatim discs for 5 years with only an occasional failure. Now I can't use the exact same software as well as ImgBurn with the exact same blank discs at all. I've produced 8 useless coasters with two different drives.
    I just received a 10 pack of new AZO Verbatim discs and DVDFab failed within 3 minutes of trying a new copy.
    A new commercial copy of the movie is only $5, so I ordered one...

    DVD drives can be either double sided or double layer. In fact you can even get double sided double layer but rare. Single Side Double layer is the most common

    Are there drives that can read both sides of a 2 sided disk without flipping it? Never heard of one.

    I have some 100GB BluRay disks. I don't know whether they use 3 or 4 layers.
