    Boot Problem - Setup issue

I have an old PC that isn't suitable for Windows 10 or 11, so I thought I'd install Ubuntu on it and try it out. I downloaded an iso file and flashed it to an USB drive, but the PC didn't boot from it. i couldn't get it to boot from a CD drive either. When I try enter the Setup utility it just passes through the setup phase too quickly to change anything. Any suggestions please?

    Hello @Kashegan,

What Software did you use to burn the ISO to the USB?

Rufus is a good option. I have used it for years without ANY problems => Rufus

    Create a Bootable USB/DVD [ media ] using Rufus . . .

    > Media Creation Tool & ISO Downloader - Rufus

Non exhaustive list of ISOs Rufus is known to work with:-

Arch Linux, BartPE/pebuilder, CentOS, Clonezilla, Damn Small Linux, Debian, Fedora , FreeDOS, Garuda Linux, Gentoo, Gparted, Hiren's Boot CD, LiveXP, Knoppix, KolibriOS, Kubuntu, Linux Mint, Manjaro Linux, NT Password Registry Editor, OpenSUSE, Parted Magic, Partition Wizard, Raspbian, ReactOS, Red Hat, rEFInd, Rocky Linux, Slackware, Super Grub2 Disk, Tails, Trinity Rescue Kit, TrueNAS CORE, Ubuntu, UEFI Shell, Ultimate Boot CD, Windows XP (SP2+), Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, Windows 11, . . .
    I hope this helps.

    Boot Problem - Setup issue

I used balenaEtcher. I tried Rufus, but couldn't manage to get it to recognise the iso file I wanted to flash.

Is it a desktop or laptop? If desktop, is the keyboard connected to a rear USB or is it an older connector?
Try holding the BIOS option key instead of spamming it.

    Hello

You may need to go into the bios and see if you can find the option for 'Legacy USB' and enable it. If UEFI then apply the same 'Legacy USB' setting but make sure you use the CSM compatiblity option to make sure you see all bootable storage devices.
So boot from Legacy Option Rom and also UEFI Option rom.

    Good luck

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, the issue is solved now. I didn't do anything different and was still unable to access the BIOS, but after several more attempts the laptop eventually booted from the flashed USB and installed Ubuntu.
