HP laptop wont wake from sleep

Back about a year ago my HP laptop entered sleep mode and woke up from it just fine. Then I had battery issues and eventually that battery stopped charging, then the problems with not being able to wake from sleep started. I should have bought a new battery then but since I don't carry my laptop around with me it was fine to keep it plugged into the electricity when I used it. I have now (in the past few months) been trying to get my laptop to sleep and then wake from sleep. Its a no go and although I can work around it by keeping it plugged in its a thing that was working and now isn't. Please help me get this sorted out, I did refresh windows 10 in the hope that it would sort the sleep problem out but it didn't. Its like the keyboard and mouse do activate the laptop (when its sleeping) but the screen doesn't switch on.

Have you checked through---Settings>Power & Sleep---and the options available, plus ---Powershell >run as administrator >type in ---powercfg /?. ---then press ---Enter---.
This gives a list of commands one of which may be of help.
    Should be ---Settings>System >Power & Sleep

You don't get the up to date drivers from Windows Updates. The drivers that Microsoft releases are enough to get the Device working, however it doesn't have all the required software for the device to run properly.

It is best to go to your manufacturers website to download the latest drivers for your display.

In one of my systems, I have an AMD RX 570 and when installing a clean Install of Windows, Windows update installs the driver that will make it work. I dont have the sleep issue, but games wont run correctly unless I go to AMDs website and download the latest drivers there.

Also, is the battery removable? If so, you should remove it if it's not keeping a charge. I've had a few laptops with bad batteries and it has caused weird system issues until the battery was removed. Toshiba laptops were the worst when it come to that issue.

    powercfg -LastWake
    powercfg -List
    powercfg -Requests
    powercfg /RequestsOverride

@Ztruker and @Imaneke - I now have a new battery the old battery was removed but I think the no wake from sleep issue started while the old battery was still inserted into the laptop and not holding a charge.
@joeandmarg0 and @Paul Black - I will post the results of powercfg/? - perhaps they will give us a clue what is happening. I will also post the results of the tasks mentioned in Paul Black's post.

    Result post coming soon
