My Windows 10 has been wrecked

I was downlaoding this afternoon an update for my Windows 10 drive and it would not download the update. However during this a reboot has coem up with my screen being in a near unreadable stae - it is aprtially pixellated.
Any idea on what I can do please as it contains all of my apps and data. Unfortunately I foolishly did not create a restore point so is there any way of getting it back to normal as the wretched update keeps telling me that it is installing.

Edit is three a way via the command prompt that I can stop the udate running or check my system apart from sfc which says there are no integrety violations

The simplest way to recover would be to restore your PC from a recently created disk image.

You've been a member for long enough to have seen how often the regular and routine use of disk imaging is recommended- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + external storage for disk images.

    Personal example:
I used a System Restore point - after which my PC would not boot- BSOD. I restored an image of C: - and all was fine.

Also consider checking your disk (3rd party software to check SMART params).

    Note:
    a. there's a tutorial on creating a system restore point on schedule- I have one created daily automatically,
    b. System Restore points are great- when they work. But can't be relied on. See above.
    c. SR points are irrelevant immediately after a feature update. (Can't use one to go back to previous build).
    Good luck!

If it were possible I`m sure John could do that. He says he does not have any restore points.

John, do you have any Restore Points at all ?

    Hello John,
Mate, did you install the optional preview updates? Those are to be avoided, especially without making a full backup first. Sorry to hear about this.

You already went through a reinstall not so long ago.

Well the machine in question I did not have a restore point on - so my own fault really and yes it was a preview one and it has now disappeared and after a couple of reboots the screen came back ok.
so yes I do now have a Windows restore point and will set up a backup with Macrium as the computer is itself running Windows 11 on another drive I have swapped in to try it out - the version that was on offer to try on unsupported hardware, and I was just trying to keep the 10 drive up to date for when the 11 support ends.
In all honesty the screen going haywire just switched on panic mode at the time ccos I tought I had busted the sytem. But thanks for the help fellas I do appreciate it.

And a good way to avoid that is to use disk imaging regularly and routinely as I said in my post - unacknowledged- above.

    Consider

    a) uninstalling the recent update

    b) reinstalling GPU drivers

I also recommend not installing Update Previews John, wait for the actual update to come out.
Cumulative Updates are usually Optional now, but those .NET Framework Update Previews will install themselves if you run windows update.
I hide Update Previews, and when the real thing comes out and you install it, the hidden update just disappears.
I use Windows Automatic Update Manager. Option 7

Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
