PC freezes for 1-2 secs when programs boot

    Hi there,

    OS info:
PC freezes for 1-2 secs when programs boot-untitled.png

I have an issue with a ThinkPad P17 machine running Windows 10. Pretty annoying one. At PC boot up, when the auto startup programs come to life, the PC freezes (mouse/ keyboard inputs blocked for 1 - 2 secs) whenever a new application turns on (it can be seen how the tray icons appear one by one after each freeze ends). This is not for every program, just some of them (not realty related with one another). The freezing thing then goes one from time time for the next 5 mins of usage (like can freeze using a browser etc.). But after that, it happens really rarely.

I was looking around what could be the case. Lenovo forums gave generic advices like resetting your BIOS etc... I found somewhere to disable hyper V, but it was already off in my case. Interesting thing is that the described behavior does not occur when I boot the PC connected to a docking station through a thunderbolt port.

The Windows 10 I have on the PC is a fresh install, few days old.

I am clueless at this point and could really use some help, which I would appreciate!

Hello bremenpl and welcome to TF ,

Run Run SFC Command in Windows 10 to see if any problems are found/corrected.

A second thing to try is disable hibernation/fast startup by running from admin powershell "powercfg /h off" . Then both test shutdown/power on and restart.

Hi thanks for the answer. I have already run sfc (all good). I have already disabled hibernation and fast startup (no changes).

Do you have any recent installed software including AV that could affect the freeze ? Any entries in Event Viewer or Windows Reliability Monitor ?

Lastly, does Lenovo offer any free service/warranty or support for such an elite ($4K) system ? May want to contact a tech if possible.

I have no AV. I am noticing that the freeze happens with applications: Monitor fusion, clipboard fusion, chrome. As for the mentioned entries, I am not sure what to look for, but if you you give me more info ill check that.

So far I was writing on the Lenovo forums. My warranty level is "good":

Don't think it matters how much did the PC cost in the first place when it comes to this... :/

May want to scan your system with a free online scan like ESET or Malwarebytes. If not familiar with Event Viewer and Windows Reliability Monitor, check the Tutorial Section at top of page or google. Their info is often not complete but an error code can lead to researching an issue.

I meant does Lenovo have a customer service center to text or talk to a technician directly. Or are there technicians on the Lenovo forum ?

Didn't mean to infer that it did or to offend. Thought Lenovo might offer free extended warranty or customer service.

Good Luck in resolving the issue.
