In Win 10 Where do 3rd party apps store the update files they download

I'm on Win10 Pro 64 bit and fully updated.

When a 3rd party application does an update, where does it store the update it downloads before installing?
    Thanks

I would think it would be different for different 3rd party apps.
Probably in one of the Temp folders... somewhere, or somewhere in it's own installation directory.

Or even in a location that gets removed after the 3rd party app, is finished with it.

Is there a specific 3rd party app you had in mind?

While it's a thought I've wondered about for some years, where do updating apps download before actually doing the update, it was earlier today when I started doing some backups and the 3rd party app "EaseUS Todo Backup" nagged about an update, which I allowed, that I was prompted to enquire.

I did some searching in both the Windows Folder and also the User folder but didn't find anything relating to EaseUS...

I have found some in one of the Temp folders in the past and have also found some within C:\ProgramData folders.
As Ghot mentioned, there does not seem to be any consistency in their approach.

Even though I've marked this as solved it obviously isn't, but I can't see any way to answer it.

I updated another app earlier today when the update was offered, searched again and didn't find the downloaded...
I don't want to waste any more of your, or my time on this thing.

Thanks for the thoughts offered... Appreciated.

You didn't mention whether the apps are from the Windows Store (which are updated automatically and store their update files in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder) or discrete apps.

For discrete apps it depends upon the installer engine. MSI apps tend to always use wherever the %Temp/Tmp% environment variables point to by default (usually C:\Windows\Temp or C:\User\<logged-on-user>\AppData/Local/Temp, but this can easily be changed) but other installer engines like NSIS can use other locations.

NSIS uses defaults of C:/Users/<logged-on-user>/AppData/Local/Temp if the installer is run with standard privileges or C:\Windows\Temp if the installer is run using 'Run as administrator'... but packagers can use a SupportDir variable to point to wherever the NSIS installer has the rights to.

    Hope this helps...
