Windows 10 Randomly goes to hibernation

    Hello,

I am writing about my Lenovo W530 with Windows 10 64 bit. All of my drivers are up to date, it has optimus Nvidia Quadro 2000m + Intel HD 4000 GPU and it is a triple-boot with linux systems and the following only happens on the Windows 10 side.

It only started doing this since Yesterday with no significant update.

While connected to charger and hooked up to my TV through mini-Diplay port, the laptop once a while randomly decides to go for hibernation. It is sitting on a chill matt and no thermal issues, everything hardware wise is perfect.

I checked the reliability log, nothing suspicious, the sleep study shows that the laptop randomly goes into hibernate mode. Power settings basically tells the computer to never sleep or hibernate in any case.

The computer goes into hibernate even while in use, I was quite annoyed when it did that during a Zoom meeting, my Zoom guest told me that he got a warning that my computer is about to disconnect due to low power.

My battery is fine, and it is fully charged!

Any suggestions? For now I swapped out the battery to see if that helps, I will try the CMOS battery next but I don't think it's a hardware issue since everything checks out fine on the linux side.

Done, let's see if that fixes it.

    Hello @SJLPHI,

Check your sleep settings times so you don't have any surprises.

I wonder if the hibernate times were a factor. Anyway, hibernation is against my religion, so I keep it disabled

I don't think it has to do with idle timer because last time it happened, I was literally using my laptop to show a CAD design while broadcasting on Zoom. In any case, I did do that, the only time that it was supposed to hibernate was when the battery was at less than 7% and, the battery was always pretty above 90% being connected to the charger all the time.

    Now, the hibernation is gone.

I don't really use hibernation or even sleep for that matter typically.

I kind of wish to understand what caused it so that in case if I see it any other machines, I would know what to do. I do use hibernation on my Surface Pro 3.

I wonder if your battery is so degraded that it is dropping to that 7% Critical battery level instantaneously.

The 100% indication in Windows Taskbar, SysTray [Notn area] only means charged to 100% of whatever it can manage these days. It does not mean 100% of what it is supposed to be able to manage.

Check its state by comparing Full charge capacity to Design change. These parameters can be obtained in a Battery report or an Energy report. A battery report is simpler to look through - those parameters are right near the top under the heading Installed batteries. Put a path to a folder of your own in place of my D:\Desktop
    Code:
    PowerCfg /batteryreport /output D:\Desktop\BatteryReport.html /Duration 1

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Well, while it's certainly not hibernating anymore... now it just shuts down which is even worse.

Same behaviour on all 4 remaining tested "good" batteries! (rest have been tested and harvested down to 18650), and only happens on W10 but not Linux. Any more suggestions? What are some of the logs I should check?

Well from the powercfg report, it shows:
Fully charged, the battery loses down to 96% then gets "supended" really shutting down while compiling a big code which really pi$$ed me off! Then I grabbed an empty battery to see if that would somehow help.
