    Windows installation not found?

Last night I turned my computer off with update and turn off since there was an update pending.

This morning, I turn it on and get MBR error 1. Verified the boot order, my m.2 ssd is the only boot volume and it's the proper one.

A few resets later, no more mbr errors, but a Windows repair attempt that fails.

I pop in my Windows thumb drive to repair my installation and in the command shell, I run bootrec /rebuildbcd

It finds a win installation only in my f drive . My Windows is on drive c. Maybe f is an old ssd witn an unerased Windows on it? I don't know. Asked if I want to add installation to boot disk, I say n and exit out of shell. Then click on turn off my pc.

Now, when I turn it on, I get to my bios splash screen, inviting me to press del for bios setup, and no response. It's just stuck there.

    Confused.

Of note, yesterday I changed my psu and case, making me move things around. But I did use my pc after (just before the update).

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello, @TheIronEddie.

The MBR error 1 often indicates that there has been a change from the default boot order and now your computer is trying to boot from a device that doesn't have a booting procedure defined (such as a drive used only to store data)

To fix it, you could either change the boot order in bios or Repair MBR.

Changing the boot order in your Bios is different for any manufacturer, please reply if you need assistance with this.

For repairing MBR, boot from your USB and click 'Repair your computer'. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > command Prompt. (I'm assuming you know how to do this though.)
I believe your command is incomplete and requires more information. I would use this command: bootrec /FixMbr bootrec /FixBoot bootrec /ScanOs bootrec /RebuildBcd. Remove the USB drive from the USB port and type EXIT inside Command Prompt before clicking the Enter key. Restart your computer and check to see if the MBR error 1 error still appears.

    Please update on your progress,
    James

It didn't work. For bootrec, I rad to put all commands in one at a time and it didn't work. I ended up solving the problem I don't know how, through a combination of reverting to an earlier system image and some automatic repairs on startup. I say "solving " but I didn't dare turn off the computer since. AndI delayed the pending update.
