Bit of a delay replying, sorry. Been trying out various things whilst using pc. I have just reinstalled winaerotweaker and rebooted, so far so good but only beginning of use since, so we shall see.

I think its something to do with changing users. I click on start to get to wifes desktop; and the start menu is obviously open. So I go to wife setup, and them, logging out, come back to find start menu is still open.

    edit: (see below)

You could probably experiment with disabling fast shutdown and hibernate but then "Sleep" won't work and the machine will be slower to load windows on power up.

    Think I have found it.

I am logged in, and open start to switch to wifes account. When it comes up, wifes start menu appears. I log her out. I swittch back to mine. Start menu is there.

But, if I log out then switch to wifes account logging her in, no start menu comes up. Switch back to mine, and log in, no start menu appesrs, it only happens when I remain logged in.

Regarding mentions of 'sleep'. That is something I never use and have never set. As I use an older MS keyboard it has a sleep option tiny button far right next to F Lock??? But again, never used, nor do I use the log off button next to it, in fact I dont think they work anymore.

I checked the power options Callender, sleep is set to do nothing. Turn off power display - never. Sleep: never.

Okay I can't comment on user switching. I was just thinking along the lines of windows not fully shutting down might be the issue but then you'd need to log out all users and reboot with fast shutdown disabled to test that. I know that by default windows doesn't actually fully shut down or at least it never did for me.

I've seen one suggestion that temporarily switching to tablet mode then rebooting and then switch out of tablet mode might fix the issue.

Are you Switching Users? or are you Signing Out (logging off)? There is a slight difference. If Switching Users, may I suggest you try Signing Out?

There are three users on my pc. Normally I would open start and click onto another user and log into that if need be. Then a short while ago, I would do this and the menu stayed up, when I returned to my own log in. Wife said her log in did the same thing. I presume my daughters log in did too. So, before I went across, I logged out of my account (which normally I did not do) and did whatever I was doing elsewhere, then came back into mine and there the start menu was sitting, open.

Yesterday, I logged out of my account and went over to wifes, then logging out of the same, back into my account, no start menu visible. Since I have been on win 10, the very beginning, this had not been an inconvenience, but a couple of upgrades ago, it began. Probably another example of MS changing something and not bothering to see it it affected something else.

Update. last night I fogrot to sign out, just shutting the pc down. Today I switched on and the start menu was there. Logged out and then logged in, and it was gone. Suggestion to devs - make start menu open only on manual commands??
