I was in BestBuy checking prices on HP ink cartridges for my old HP 8500A Plus printer
I bought the same printer when it first came out and I'm in the process of replacing my original set of printheads. While these cost $65 each, and I need both of them, that's not bad for a set of components that are only supposed to last two years.

I have read reviews of the 8500's replacement, the 8600 series, and there are a lot more complaints about those than the 8500s.

That is what my feeling were after looking at the new HP8600s. Now just looking is not really getting into them but it's my feelings. I am not a really big printer user for the print item. I do more scanning then printing. So my old HP printer sure is not in need of new print heads today.i also have an older HP Officejet 6500 USB printer as a back up to my 8500.

IMHO I think a lot of people either don't know or can't remember the issues that always come with the rollout of a new OS. They think of 7 in it's current pretty stable state, and don't remember that it's really Vista +, or how 8 had to go to 8.1 to gain any acceptance. The issues people are having reflect the huge variance in the machines and software out there. To MS credit they have always tried to make their OS as backward compatible as possible, but that's a major if not impossible task. I think this shows up the most in laptops that can vary significantly within the same model.

As HippsieGypsie stated, I too have been extremely lucky with the upgrades I've done. I've done 5 in all, 6 if you count a clean install I did on one of them after the upgrade. My test machine is an old AMD Athlon 64 M2 machine that belonged to my late father. Just a simple base pc that he ran XP on. The only upgrade I made to it was add more ram, since it only had 2gigs. I've used it as my insider machine for awhile now and it runs great. I'm actually surprised how fast it is. Never going to be a gaming machine but for my purposes it's great. I also upgraded a HP and Acer laptop without any issues. Neither of them were the latest and greatest either, but both are a lot more usable than they were with 8.1. So am I just lucky, or did that luck have something to do with the precautions I took prior to upgrading, and realizing that under the best of circumstances, sometimes you have to chase down the right drivers.

Finally since this thread moved to the printer arena. I've used HP printers for a long, long time and I've really never had one to fail mechanically. It's just the cost of the ink that's a real issue. I really don't print that much, so the ink usually dried out before I used it up. I tried all the "tricks" to get them to last but none really worked for me. So like many others, I switched to a laser printer. I plugged into my network and it works like a charm. Win10 picked it up on all my machines without a problem. I put up my color inkjet for those rare occasions that I might actually have to print something in color.

Sorry, a bit of a ramble I know, but the bottom line is that I'm very satisfied with Win10. For the features I don't like I turn them off or switch to a different program. While nothing is perfect, I think overall MS did a good job on this one.

My one and only computer that I bought pre assembled was a Packard Bell back in 1995. Since then I have always built my own for myself and my friends and family. I like building and putting in parts that I want not what some manufacturer says I want. With that said I am happily running Windows 10 Pro. My only gripe are about the updates. My system runs great and with the drivers I installed. I don't need or want MS coming along and installing updated drivers. This is about the only gripe I really have about Win 10.

What drivers has Microsoft installed over your original drivers? Where do you find the Ver. of a driver that replaced your drivers?
