How do I save all open files to the same location?

    Windows 10 Build 19042.1348

Lets say I (hypothetically) have ten jpegs open in a photo editor. All of these files were opened from different directories.

Now I make changes to all of the opened files and want to save them all to the same directory. What happens when I click on "Save As", the default location is the directory the file was opened from.

What I want is to select a directory for the first save and then have it be the default folder for subsequent saves.

While I have used a photo editor in this example, the same situation exists in other software as well.

"Settings/Storage/Change where new content is saved" only allows me to choose a local drive; whereas I want to save to a specific folder on a network drive.

    Thanks,

Your options depend on the program used. If the program allows you - in its settings- to set a default output location- that would meet your needs.

Thanks, but not applicable to my issue

Thanks for your reply but this does not address my problem. I do not want to set a new default location but rather have it set by the first saved file.

Also, I have checked the settings on several programs and do not find an option to set "Save as" directory as the directory for subsequent saves.

    Thanks,

    Hi delpi767,

OK. I get you, I think. So, assuming I do, kind of, do the following:

    1. Understand you still need to save each file one at a time.
    2. With the first file displayed, go to File>>Save as>>browse to the network folder you want to use.
    3. Name the first file you are saving, then save.
    4. Repeat 2 & 3 for each file, one at a time.

To improve this, you may be able to set a default folder depending upon the image software you are using. So just post the name of that here, and we can advise further accordingly.

It is likely, anyway, that for each file after the first one that you wish to save, the same folder will already be selected in the Save as dialogue box. If it is, good. If you know that you always want to save all images to the network folder, the settings of the software you are using may allow you to set a default path for all future images. It is this latter aspect that we just need to check. Hence needing the name of the software.

    UPDATE
Just read your reply to dalchina. OK, by saving the first file to the path you want (have browsed to in the Save as dialogue box), the same folder should remain selected ready for when you save each of the other files that are open. I hope it does, otherwise you will need to re-navigate for each one.

    Best wishes,

    Christophe

So now you've basically had the same response twice...

you may be able to set a default folder depending upon the image software you are using.
Your options depend on the program used. If the program allows you - in its settings- to set a default output location- that would meet your needs.
To meet your precise need you would need to try to find a program that provides what you want.
    Or write your own.

Windows cannot do this for you. Sorry to disappoint you.

    Hi,

Naming the "photo editor" could help on it's capability... Photoshop as an option for that.

How do I save all open files to the same location?-screenshot00131.jpg

When Save As to Original Folder is disable PS remember the last destination for all opened files regardless of origin.

    Thanks,
I'm using Affinity Photo and see no option such as you describe. I'm virtually sure I'm missing something. This is such a fundamental process that there must be a way.

OK. I think I've found something that might either help you or demonstrate limitations that won't quite achieve what you want to do. But this just might. Anyway, here it is: How to Run a Batch Job in Affinity Photo

I hope you are able to be successful at this. I can completely understand why you want to be able to do it.

    Best wishes,

    Christophe

    Christophe,

Thanks for taking your time to chase this down. Unfortunately, this is more for running the same process, such as converting formats, changing resolution, etc. on multiple files. It does not seem to allow for making changes to individual files. If I figure out a way to using it for what I want, I'll let you know.

Ahhh. Ok delpi. Well good luck with this anyway. I love helping people who don't give up easily. That's the way!

Just one more link for you that might yield something as I'm sure that others have sought the solution in the past. Ya never know. Affinity have their own user forum. Fingers crossed for you.

    Kindest regards.
