During bootup: 21 failures of CredentialEnrollmentManagerUserSvc

I am troubleshooting a Win10 laptop that has become VERY slow.

I'm unsure if the following is a cause, but I am trying to fix this problem nonetheless.

During bootup I am getting 21 instances of the Event 7000 error (each one with a unique embedded number as part of the Event Viewer error report), such as: "The CredentialEnrollementManangerUserSvc_5c5bb service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."

It seems that a whole folder of certificates is missing or corrupted.

Is there a way that I can reset the credential system? I have searched the web for a way to do this, but am coming up blank.

(Trouble started under 20H2; I updated to 21H1, 19043.1387, a few days ago.)

You can try this: How to Fix Service Control Manager Error on Windows 10 '-' Quick Tips | TechPout
This may be caused by HDD being corrupted due to it starting to fail. Download DiskGenius in my signature, Select your disk and go to the toolbar to Disk/View SMART Information. This will give you a quick snapshot of the health of your drive. You can also go to View or Repair Bad Sectors. This will take a long time, but show you a map of any Bad Sectors on your drive if any. If there are more then a couple the drive should be replaced.

    Thank you Spunk.

I ran the SMART and sector tests, and the drive passes.

The article you provided the link for deals with similar Event 7000 errors recorded in the event log, but not the the kind of Event 7000 error I am encountering. So I'm still stuck.

It seems that something must have gotten deleted either on my hard drive or in the registry. The bummer is that I can't figure out a way to determine what programs or services the missing credentials are for.

Try ---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---followed by ---sfc /scannow ---to clean up system files.
The logs for those are found---C>Windows>logs ---[CBS is the receptacle for sfc and dism is self explanatory ]
Have a look in Reliability History on the off chance there might be flagged entries for the problem.Lines 1 to 3 in ---view tech details---will give searchable information if so.

    A faulty HDD, most likely!

I've seen SMART not show much and it pass surface scan before, (no error) but, has very slow sectors.
