Intermittent muti-minute wake from sleep?

Started within the last few months but so infrequent, just put up with so far.

It has only happened when waking up from sleep but not every time.

The screen stays blank and if used, keyboard buffer fills up resulting in beeps. Disk activity light flashes furiously for between 1 and 3 minutes. No sound, so assume IO must be for the two NVMe SSDs. No clues in the Windows log files. But Process Explorer is always running and as soon as the system becomes responsive, mouse overing the IO history graph shows "memory compression". But could be a red herring?

Whatever the IO actually is, I'm not too happy if its writes to the SSDs but both are about the fastest drives made so 3 minutes would be many many times the 16GB DDR4 3600 memory, so memory compression doesn't make sense for a cause.

No other strange behavior observed.

Any Idea what causes this or how I can figure it out?

Enable or Disable Wake Timers in Windows 10 not the answer to your question, but I don't like my PCs waking up behind my back, so I prevented that.

You can run "powercfg /lastwake" to check wake up reason once your PC is responsive.

Wake Source is what you want to focus on.

Thanks, but I know why it's waking up.

It's waking up because I tapped a key to wake it up first thing in the morning.

The mystery is why it takes minutes to wake up sometimes with constant IO when one or two second is the norm.

Good lead from that:

If the problem of heavy loading of the computer by the Compressed memory process occurs only after waking from the Sleep or Hibernate mode (and disappears after the restart), try to download and install the latest versions of drivers for your disk controllers (ACPI/ AHCI / RAID / SCSI), hard drives and video card from the official websites.

Drivers are current. I ran Samsung Magician to check the 970 EVO PRO and it MAY have updated the firmware but no log to be sure. Guess will monitor.

Nothing in that article makes me think it's for these exact symptoms though. Will keep fingers crossed. Heavy loading to me means slow to some degree. This isn't slow response but absolutely zero for minutes on a very fast CPU, memory, drives, etc. while the IO light is going nuts.

Meant to mention in the original post that the first time it happened I wondered if it could be malware phoning home, so the 2nd time it happened, I was ready and hit the router power switch immediately. No effect. Still took minutes before responsive.

That thread described exactly my experience. But I could not rule out that after a warning to update, opening the page to see versions didn't automatically update. I've seen poorly written software before. LoL
