    .7z is not a default Windows extension - you need to install a 3rd party program to open it - e.g. 7-zip (free).
    How to open zip files with a .7z file extension

    A (Google) search such as
    how do I open 7z files
    would help you:
    Unable to install-1.jpg

    Hi,

    Tks for your advice.

    Performed following steps;

    Download and install 7-zip files manager on;
    Learn How to unzip 7z files on windows 10 in 2 easy Ways - Fixwill

    7-zip files manager
    is now on;
    C:\Program Files (x86)
    Pls refers to screenshot_1.png

    Extract
    ffmpeg-2021-11-25-git-522f577d7e-full_build.7z
    to;
    C:\User\Downloads\ffdshow
    (I'm not allowed to change path and folder name)

    Move ffdshow to C:\Program Files (x86)
    and rename the folder ffdshow to ffmpeg
    Pls refers to screenshot_2.png

    Anything wrong in extracting ffmpeg-2021-11-25-git-522f577d7e-full_build.7z ?

    But I'm still unable to running VirtualDub to view video files

    I'm assuming your .7z contains files inside it which you use to install the codec. I can only guess.

    I don't know where you got it or why, or what you understand to be.
    Notice here there's also a more familiar zip version by the way:
    Release ffmpeg git 2021-11-25 builds . GyanD/codexffmpeg . GitHub
    - might have been easier for you as Windows can open zip natively.

    If you return to where you got it from, you may find guidance as to what your supposed to do with it. Clearly you downloaded that for a purpose- I feel you're simply guessing as to what to do with it.

    You now suddenly and rather randomly mention Virtualdub.

    This may help wrt ffmpeg and Virtualdub:
    Virtualdub FFMpeg Input Plugin download | SourceForge.net

    That method is not related to Virtualdub, if that's what you're interested in.

    I've given you one that adds ffmpeg as a plugin for Virtualdub.

    Missing from all of this is your actual goal.

    What is it you are actually trying to do?

    As to Virtualdub, as you saying it doesn't launch, or what, exactly?
    Please post a screenshot to illustrate. Thanks.

    Sorry for missing to mention VirtualDub at the beginning.

    I have been working several days unable making VirtualDub, both VirtualDub1 and VirtualDub2, to browse video files, .avi, mp4, vob etc, only audio working on VirtualDub2. I thought the problem may come from ffmpeg therefore I reinstalled ffmpeg but fail. That is the start of this posting.

    Please refers attached screenshots

    VirtualDub2
    Only audio playing without video

    I installed the 32 bit version: it opened an avi, but for an mp4 I got
    Unable to install-1.jpg

    despite mp4's being playable e.g. with WMP.

    I found this for your error message: but it does NOT apply to Win 10..
    This method is working under Windows 7 32bit, 64bit; It's NOT working under Windows 8.1, 10 64bit!
