Will Win 10 Still be there

Greetings; Re; Win10 0/S Dell Dimensions E521 Desktop. This is my Wife's computer which we purchased from Dell with Windows Vista Business and included a free upgrade to Win 7 when it came out and that did happen. We purchased my own desktop, again from Dell. an Inspiron 546 soon after which included Win 7 Pro. Following that, I upgraded my wife's uni to Win 7 Pro so we were both operating with Win 7 Pro. When Win 10 came out, I installed it via digital license via Microsoft and then created an installation tool to install it on my wife's unit, so then we are both asking along with Win 10 until her unit broke down requiring a power supply replacement. For some reason it just didn't go back to normal, so I did a wipe So now I am ready to attempt to install Win 10 back on her computer using the same USB device that I used to put it there before. I Wii appreciate your comments on what might happen. Thank you for any input. RS

Hello Zuko and welcome to TF ,

Yes, Windows 10 should reinstall and activate just fine.

Here is a tutorial is you would like to use it: Clean Install Windows 10

I would recommend making a new USB with https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
so you will install the latest version of Windows 10.

The USB you uses previously is almost certainly for an older version of Windows 10. Once installed Windows would need to be upgraded to the current version, particularly if it is version 1909 or earlier. That version is out of support now. If you created that usb "When Win 10 came out..." then it will be for the original release from 2015, version 1507. I'd use the Media Creation Tool to make a USB with the latest version 21H2 and use that.

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

Your wife's PC got a digital licence for Windows 10 Pro when you upgraded it to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Pro. This digital licence is stored on Microsoft's activation servers and is linked to the hardware ID of the PC. As long as the motherboard hasn't been replaced it should still have the same hardware ID. A clean install of Windows 10 Pro, skipping entering a key when asked, should activate from the existing digital licence as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

Do you have any bootable CDs that boot, like your old one, just to make sure setup is good?

Try the new CD in another PC and see if it boots. Did you make the new CD using the Windows 10 MCT link I posted "Create Windows 10 installation media"?

If secure boot is on in BIOS, as a test, see if the new CD will boot with secure boot off.
