Moved Desktop to D Drive now a problem

I am running Windows 10 Home version 21 H1

My C drive was showing red as nearly full so in my wisdom I thought I could move my desktop file to my D drive.

Unfortunately I didn't move it as I should have done after reading a few forum posts.

I didn't make a new folder named Desktop in my D drive now all desktop folders are mixed with my existing D drive folders and files.

I want to either get my desktop folder back into C drive or keep in d drive but seperate from othe files.
I have found out you can only get a location tab in properties if it is a system folder and wondered if I could reuse the 3d objects folder to keep desktop in C drive or make a desktop folder a system folder in D drive?
If I make a sytem folder in D drive will it show in my "This PC" folders?

Hi,

Go to properties of your desktop folder, select location tab, Click restore default.

Do not copy files. Just restore the original emplacement, then use Windows explorer to bring back to your desktop all the things that where there initially.

Once everything back in order, you can follow the guide to move your personal folder again.

Have you run Disk Cleanup Utility to see if you could recover some place.

Hi, thanks for the reply, unfortunately I no longer have a desktop folder as I didn't move it correctly to my D drive, I can't actually remember what I did exactly to move it, but now all my desktop folders and files are in D drive individually with no Desktop folder.

I need to make a seperate desktop folder in my D drive but make as a system folder somehow?

Yes, Restoring the the default location will bring back the folder to it's original place. "c:\users\YourName\Desktop"

Do not copy files if asked to, because at the moment it will bring all your D: to your desktop.

Once done you can verify if your desktop is back to it original state by browsing to "c:\users\YourName\Desktop"

Right click and create a new text file write something in it and save it... If it appears on your desktop. you have successfully restored the location.

Then proceed with file explorer to bring back your desktop items from D:\ to your desktop as "they where" before.

Okay, managed to restore desktop folder using the Bat. file
I will run stuff for a few days before I decide to move anything again.

I might try to reduce files on my desktop to gain more space or possible move perhaps the downloads folder rather than the Desktop folder as not so important if I screw it up again.

Not sure what else I can do to gain more space as always a bit dodgy deleting stuff from C Drive.

I will do disk clean up at some point, just want to be sure all is okay first...

It's the safest way to remove temps files and other windows left overs. This tool is provided by Microsoft as part of the OS and is perfectly safe to use.

If you have never run it, you might recover a lot of space there.
