Does switching out of S mode fully turn it into a "real" computer?

I understand that S mode is like an iPad knockoff thing right?
That's where you can run only apps from a store and it's mostly a tablet focused feature I'm guessing.

So if I buy a Surface Go 3 or something and "switch out of S mode", does this make it fully like a normal laptop computer where you install Windows?

Also, if I wanted to, would I be able to install my own Windows, like if I want Windows 10, etc. Would I be able to factory reset it to Windows 11? Or do I need a personal copy of Windows 11?

    Thanks!

A laptop with Windows 10 S mode was designed to compete against Chromebooks. In S mode it can only install software from the Microsoft Store. From the system menu it can be converted into the regular version of Windows 10 but that is a one-way process. It is OK for what market it is intended but should be avoided if you want something more. It has minimal RAM and storage so that greatly limits it. Some don't even have enough storage to install hardly any software or to even update Windows 10.

If the computer is capable there might be an option for a free update from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Then again with limited RAM and storage then that may not be worth it.
