    Rogue icon on taskbar

How did this rogue icon get onto my task bar?

It used to be the Firefox icon. It deleted it ... and it's still there as a blank gray box.

Its right-click context menu looks like this:

I logged out and then logged in again. It's still there.

If I used the Delete menu item to try to delete it (again) I get this:

Open the folder in File explorer and see what's in it.

    Hello mate,

If this is a pinned item on the taskbar, you could use the tutorial below to reset and clear all pinned items on the taskbar to remove it. Of course, you'll have to pin everything you want back again afterards.

It seems that you still have the registry entry for Firefox in place so need to delete it. If you are not familiar with doing that manually, running a utility like CCleaner should take care of that for you.

Press the Windows key+R and copy and paste or type
    C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
replacing UserName, with your User Name and delete it from there.
