    What windows build mean ?


    hello,
    i use option on for display windows version at desktop, and it say

    Windows 10 Pro
    Build 19041.vb_release.191206-1406

    anyone can translate it ?

    Build 19041: this is the major build number of the system files. 19041 = version 2004. All subsequent versions 20H2, 21H1 and 21H2 share a common set of system files, so it may still say 19041 even if you've had the update to 19042, 43 or 44 via the enablement package.

    vb: 'Vibranium' - Microsoft's codename for versions 2004-21H2 List of Microsoft Windows versions - Wikipedia

    _release: this is an RTM release build of Windows

    191206: YYMMDD date this build was finalised by Microsoft

    1406: that's the only bit I'm not sure of. It appears to be a 'revision number' according to this...

    what is the different between RTM and not RTM ? whichone better ? if not RTM is better, how to get it ?

    RTM stands for Released To Manufacturing, it means it's the final finished code as was delivered to the OEMs for installing on their new PCs. This is the version that's on public release (with subsequent cumulative updates). Anything else would mean it was still in development or for the Insider releases.

    None whatsoever 'RTM' is the standard build that everyone has on their PC, unless they sign up to the Insider program.
