how to repair image for windows 10 reset

I've always been able to reset my laptop if needed. One day when I turned on my laptop it started a scan to fix my drive indicating it would take 1 hour. I interrupted it by shutting down after it started the scan to fix my drive. When I tried to reset my windows 10 laptop it fails and I get a message that no changes were made. I tried all of the following. What if the install.wim file is no longer there? I've never looked for an install.wim file previously.

You can of course perform an in-place upgrade repair install, or even rebuild the recovery partition manually (I did it to see if it could be done- not as easy as I'd expected).

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

An install.wim file can be extracted from an appropriate Win 10 downloaded iso file, for example.

And of course, if you use disk imaging regularly and routinely as is endlessly recommended here (of at least all O/S partitions) you can restore partitions or extract files as necessary.

You should never stop a Check Disk scan in the middle.
Your drive may have errors, Bad Sectors. If you can still boot into Windows, as stated, You can do an In Place Upgrade, directly from the Web Page, or you can download the ISO image of Windows 10. Right click the ISO image and choose Mount. Upgrade Saving Files.
Once Windows is stable, you should download DiskGenius from my signature. Select your disk then go to the toolbar to Disk/View SMART Information. This will give you a quick snapshot of the health of your drive. You can also go to View or Repair Bad Sectors/Start Verify This will take a long time but will show you a map of all of the Bad Sectors on the drive if any. If you have more then a couple the drive should be replaced ASAP.

Now remember to start a new regime of disk imaging with a new base (initial) image- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + large enough external disk for image files- before something goes badly wrong
