    Hello pothound ,

Confirm it is set to go to sleep as you expect it to.
How to Change Computer Sleep After Time in Windows 10

Please provide some details ......... what exactly does it do and when did this start? Try changing the settings so it will sleep within 1 minute for testing, and before you let it try to sleep, run "powercfg /requests" from an admin powershell to see if anything is going to prevent it from sleeping. You can post the output in your reply.

Please update your PC details and Windows version in your profile ....... it says Windows 7 - do you have 7 or 10?

    Why "new"? Why "fancy"?

What changed on your computer between the time it worked & the time it did not work?
What fixes have you tried & what checks have you done?

How are you trying to send it to sleep?
What does it do when you try?
    Does it hibernate?

Please post the responses to these commands.
    Code:
    powercfg -a
    Code:
    winver

    All the best,
    Denis

    sleep mode

thank you. i change settings on following directions on google. when sleep mode works correctly on my desktop, the light flashes and to get it back, i shake the mouse, a picture comes up, i hit the space button, a sign in page comes up, then i hit space button again, and i'm back on. what is this sleep mode called? i did the power command. it shows s3 as the mode i should be in. i soon as i figure out, i will send the command page. i built this computer less than a year ago, and appreciate that sleep mode.

Do you mean that those changes stopped sleep working?
Don't you have a system image you can restore to fix the problem?

Your description matches S3 Sleep which is what your powercfg -a results also indicate.
