Weird Boot problem. No more BIOS splash screen.

    1. The Specs in "My Computer" are up-to-date.
    2. Link to my BIOS manual: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...d9ED3vTB2NaOBF
    3. Once on the desktop, the computer runs fine. Benchmarks, stress tests, everything runs fine.

Note: That link for my BIOS manual is for ALL... PRIME/PRO/ TUF GAMING X570 Series - ASUS, motherboards.

Problem started approx. 11PM Saturday November 13th 2021. Affects bot my Windows 10 and Windows 11 SSDs.

Problem: No BIOS splash screen, on restart, (I do get it on cold start), and delay after entering password.

Post beep, BIOS splash screen, Windows loading circle, Welcome screen (where I enter password), desktop.

    My BIOS splash screen, normally...

    Things I've tried...

    1. Cleared the CMOS via battery removal.
    2. Flashed the BIOS backwards two versions, then forwards to the latest version.
    3. Clean install of Windows 10, with no 3rd party drivers or programs.
    4. Ran the MS Memory Diagnostic.
    5. All power supply voltages are right on the money, in the BIOS and in AIDA64 Extreme.
    6. Ran Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, and TDSSKiller... they found nothing.
    7. I have the latest chipset driver.
    8. Temperatures are fine (low even), and as I said, everything runs fine when in Windows (on the desktop).
    9. Restored from various backups, from before this problem, all the way back to July 2021.
    10. Changed the SATA (data) cable. Also tested with no other drives hooked up.
    11. Tried all combinations of BIOS settings. (nothing is overclocked)

Note: I have no peripherals hooked up... just keyboard and mouse. (Ducky Shine II or III, Logitech M-100 mouse).

    /edit

ASUS just called again. (12:30pm NY time). I swear I can hear them scratching their heads, on the other side of the world.

    1. I have read most of the posts on your windows 11 thread, but as you know it is quite long

    2. I do not think this point was raised if it was I apologise
BIOS manual your link - page 41 - section 1.8
Have you tried disabling FAST BOOT in BIOS

    3. I think you may find you then get the BIOS screen, as you do on cold start
    I realise you have said
Tried all combinations of BIOS settings. (nothing is overclocked)
    4. What connection is being used from the RTX2070 to the Dell monitor please.
    Display Port or HDMI

Yeah I tried Fast Boot on and off... no difference.

And I'm using Display port cable.

Am I correct in thinking that the card has TWO display ports
As irrelevant as it may seem - try connecting to the other display port on the card and then see if you get the BIOS screen

Disable Windows fast startup/hibernation if enabled "powercfg /h off" and test restart.

It's been disabled since I installed Windows in May 2020

I think the most telling symptom, is that I got the BIOS splash screen at every boot (cold or warm), from May 2020, till Saturday the 13th of November, 2021.
And I wasn't doing anything. Last time I did anything on Win 10 or Win 11 was Nov 9th, MS Tuesday, and restoring from backups eliminated the update(s) as a possibility.

Make any sense to try an old MR backup image?

Yep, and Crystal Disk and Samsung Magician.

I've also got 10 emails and 7 phone calls from ASUS. They don't seem to have any ideas, but they're still working on it.
