File Explorer (D and F drives listed Twice) Why?

Per title my D: and F: drives show up twice in File Explorer. (see Pic)

    1) Can someone explain how this occurs
    AND
    2) I imagine it may be some kind of mapping but how to I track it to its source?

    Turn off 'Show Libraries'

File Explorer > View > Options > Change folder and search options > View tab > Advanced settings > Navigation Pane

On further review I was mistaken.
    @Try3 got it right.

They are being shown in both of the sections to which they belong [within ThisPC and as independent entries in their own right]. There is no fault.

You can turn one set off.

Similarly, if you don't like those disguised shortcuts*** [the top entries in your posted diagram] to your Documents etc cluttering up the place, you can hide them.

You can achieve the same convenient access by pinning any folders you want to Quick access. Part of the beauty of this approach is that you can skip any folders you don't want and include any folders that you do whereever they are located. Here's my own Quick access - all the folders I want to get to quickly but none of the folders I'm not so fussed about.

*** Those things shown within ThisPC that are made to look like folders in their own right are in fact merely disguised shortcuts to the sub-folders of C:\Users\%UserName%.
Your Documents are, by default, in C:\Users\%UserName%\Documents and similarly for Music etc.

    All the best,
    Denis

Farvatten and Try3 Thanks for Responding.
Try3 thanks for the explanation and Links. Will delve into them.

So basically they're a Shell extension , but curious how they got there. (I know this can't be answered).

In reading Shawn PDF on removing drives in Navigation Pane, he refers to ONLY removal drives.
Now in my case both drive "D" and drive "F" are separate partitions on the HD where "C" is the Primary Partition and holds the OS.
Shawn specifically states you cannot remove (if exists) reference to the drive that contains the OS (this case "C").
So FOR WHATEVER REASON (?) the OS must view partitions (other OS) as removable.

    Windows created them.
    Windows put them there.
It always does. We've all had them.
It might well do so again when you have a Version update.
