VLC media player and Windows Notifications center

This just started happening and it is annoying as hell.

The notifications center sends a message that tells me the next song that will be played by VLC player.
I have no clue where I would stop this from happening. I do have a lot of digital albums but I have not installed WMP 12 yet
I just thought when I needed to play an album I would just use the VLC player. What I do I choose the Media Menu and under it is a Open Folder option. I then just go through the Hard drive until I find the album I want to play and then load folder. I don't remember this happening on my old dinosaur computer even after I upgraded the OS to Windows 10 from Windows 7.

Maybe if I go back and install MPC-HC this want happen.

    Hello @jcloversX,

Mmm, I have used VLC for years and that has never happened to me, very strange.

[1] Do you still have VLC open in the System Tray that could be causing this?
[2] Have you looked in the Tools > Preferences Menu?
[3] Try Clearing Recent Media. Media Tab > Open Recent media > Clear?
[4] You could try re-installing VLC.

Go to Settings/System/Notifications and Actions and scroll down and turn off Notifications for VLC Player.

RE: VLC Media Player and Windows Notifications

Under the Get Notifications from these Senders VLC is not listed. So it maybe a hidden notification sender.
Something Windows 10 will not let me change.

It might be that you're running VLC minimized and you weren't before. By default VLC shows notifications of track changes when it's minimized.

VLC's notification setting is documented at VLC HowTo/Disable pop-up track notifications - VideoLAN Wiki
    although it's still rather obscure.

    To be more specific:

    In VLC's Tools/Preferences menu,
Click the "Advanced" button at the bottom right of the Preferences popup menu.
Expand the "Interface" option in the newly visible left-hand column.
    Expand the entry "Main Interfaces"
    Select the entry "Qt"
Expand the menu titled "show notification popup..." (it's the 3rd one down on the right-hand pane.)
Select the option you want (e.g. "Never").
Then click on the button "Save" at the lower right.

    Does this work for you?

Here's a screengrab of that final menu window:

Another view from the 'Simple' menu in VLC.

    Hello @jcloversX,

I noticed that you have marked this thread as Solved. Was it the information given by @W10 Tweaker or @selden that was the answer?

I only ask because others coming across this thread with the same problem will benefit from the solution.

Sorry I could NOT be of more help in Post #2.

    @ Paul Black

Yes the tip from @W10 Tweaker and @selden was the ticket. I found it quite easily once I knew where to go. WMP cannot handle .flac files so I usually played them in MPC-HC. But since that media player is discontinued, when I got this newer machine, I just downloaded VLC player because there is a lot of support among the greater internet audience. Age is starting to make things fuzzy so I am not sure if I ever tried playing audio files with VLC player. If I did, I am sure I would play it minimized. Full Screen mode is not practical if you are surfing the web. No media player is failsafe and anything that you do with media will invariably bite you in the ass. I played one of my Doobie Brothers albums while ago and never did get the action certain notification. So their trick works.

    Hello @jcloversX,

    Thanks for posting the resolution.

As a side note, my favourite era for music is the 80's, the music just seemed more varied, colourful, and meaningful.

    @jcloversX,

Although mpc-hc.org hasn't updated MPC-HC since 2017 (v1.7.13), it is still under active development and more recent versions are readily available. See, for example, MPC-HC 1.9.17 Free Download - VideoHelp and GitHub - clsid2/mpc-hc: Media Player Classic

MPC-HC is currently up to v1.9.17, released on Nov. 9, 2021.

FWIW, I get my copy as part of the K-Lite mega codec pack. See Download K-Lite Codec Pack
