Odd then that you still had the problem in Safe Mode...
What's the program?
nvm I had just gotten lucky.....
That said, the issue does seem to not happen completely, that being it looks like it's happening for a minute or two before the computer corrects itself, if I go into System Configuration and just uncheck "load start up items" under general (this is with the afore mentioned program set to launch at start up in Task Manager, and every enabled under services in System Configuration) and then restart it.
I had this kind of issue ever since 20H2 added forced Edge alt-tab integration;
since you can't turn it off on the Edge side, it will just spam the shit out of your explorer.exe, which makes that freeze up, sometimes crash, and so on.
the "fixes" I found are:
- [untested] don't use 20H2
- don't use Edge
- don't open more than a minuscule amount of tabs
- terminate explorer.exe and keep it off
no, if you have too many tabs it will crash even after restarting it. You need to close edge..and if it hangs closing you are ****ed unless you have task manager already open and force msedge.exe closed. It doesn't only lock up explorer, it locks almost all file accessing and program launching due to affecting the basic explorer that is part of windows; the one that runs even if you kill explorer.exe.
@Luckz is correct i believe. This issue is when they added forced Edge alt-tab integration. Even if you change it under the windows settings the problem is still there. There has to be a way to fully disable this shit. Browsers should not affect any other applications other than themselves. Microsoft can go and suck a dick. They are all ****ing retarded pieces of shit that can't write a single decent line of code. Also W11 is a pile of shit.
If you have task manager open you can basically kill explorer.exe in the moment that Edge starts, and then you can even alt-tab nicely and those things (without a task bar). At least this works if you have very important data in Edge that you could manually copy to a more independent browser.
(=> kill explorer before it ****s up explorer)
I reported this issue several times using the in-Edge reporting tool, and on social media (Reddit & MS' Edge Dev forum).
I also tried to fully disable this garbage using:
- various flags and commandline options, I thought maybe it works like media key (& playback) integration
- any imaginable compatibility options, in the hope that Windows Vista/7/8 compat would not let this feature turn on
well there is no solution on this version of edge..you used to be able to disable it with flags many versions ago. And kinda defeats the purpose of not using explorer in order to use edge..plus it's difficult to reproduce as it doesn't happen as you reach a specific number of tabs or something. This update ( Microsoft Releases Optional Windows 10 Update (KB5010415) ) coming soon fixes a lot of edge issues, possibly it might fix this as well? Who knows. Don't count on Microsoft bug reporting they probably don't even read it
