    Windows Reset and Erasing SSD

I have a Lenovo Legion Laptop that I am returning to the retailer. I did a windows reset and chose the option to wipe the drive. it is an SSD that was running Win 10 home that I upgraded to Win 11. Does the reset securely wipe the drive so data cannot be recovered with data recovery software?

    thanks.

If you did a Factory Restore, it will set the computer back to what it was when it came out of the box. The Restore would overwrite any files you had on there with the new Windows install. In most cases this is enough. If you are concerned because you have sensitive information on there and you are afraid some government agency or computer hacker will get into your stuff , then you should do a Wipe of the drive using one of several software programs. However, if you wipe the drive, it will also wipe the partition that resets the computer back to factory settings, which might also void your warranty.

    Hello @rinconmike,

A Factory Reset puts the computer back into the EXACT same condition/state that it was when you got it.

For further information, have a look at this => How to Reset Windows 10

Also, have a look at the Related Tutorials at the BOTTOM of the above Tutorial [ there are a few ], as they may also be related.

As you are returning it, you do NOT want to do too much to it in case it VOIDS the Warranty!

    I hope this helps.

    thanks all.

I did the reset. I just want to make sure someone cannot take out the SSD and use software to recover data.

I also selected the option to Clean Data.

I read that with SSD and Trim, it is hard to recover deleted files compared to a spinning hard drive. So I assume I should not have anything to worry about.

The retailer will take care of it.

    Hello @pericles,

I know I am a bit late on parade but I thought that I would just post this as it might help you.

My brother-In-Law bought a Lenovo Legion Laptop as was VERY surprised at the smoothness and performance of it. He runs a LOT of Programs and said that the impact was virtually negligible. He is so impressed that he is going to buy my Sister one for Christmas [ keep it quite it is a surprise ].

    I hope this helps.
