    Cannot open Boot Menu

I’m using a Dell i3670 with win10 UEFI. Pressing F12 repeatedly during startup brings up a screen with blue, yellow and white letters instead of the boot menu. The statement with white letters says Secure Boot is on. I tried turning secure boot off, but it did not help. I get the same screen, except secure boot is off. Fast Boot and Bitlocker are off. I heard using shift>restart at shutdown might fix the problem. It did not help me. Current windows updates are installed

My computer is very slow, and I wanted to use the Media creation tool to get a fresh start.

A computer technician told me that you cannot access the boot menu using the more recent Dell computers, and that another computer is used.

Hi, I assume you can't see how to boot from your Win 10 bootable disk.

    https://www.dell.com/support/manuals...fc5&lang=en-us

This is from your PC's manual..

What do you see? You could take a photo and upload it...

As for your PC being slow, this may be resolvable.
    a. Please give an example or examples of what you experience as 'slow'.
    b. Post a screenshot of your task manager, Processes tab, 3 minutes after logging on, without launching additional programs, other than to take the screenshot, organising columns of high usage high to low.

    Hi,

You can try to do a startup repair with a windows install media, Since the boot menu is saved in your EFI boot files, may have been corrupted.

I assume you see something like this. If you see something else then try taking a photo of it and posting it in this thread.

When I disable Secure boot in my Dell's Bios, there are a few words of explanation onscreen [as you can see, mine also demands confirmation before the change takes effect]. Perhaps you can post a photo of your equivalent Bios screen so that the explanation can be seen [they vary].

Looks like a Boot menu to me, not sure what else he could want.

Only difference would be, he would see his USB stick in the UEFI list, and simply click on it.

I have a very recent Dell, shipped in January 2021, and I can assure you that booting from a USB in the F12 one-time boot menu is alive and well. I too see the same screen as @Try3's first screenshot, except that I have no 'LEGACY BOOT' section. This is because Intel dropped CSM support for UEFI bios in 2020.

Removal of Legacy BIOS Boot Support for Intel Platforms
    * Intel is phasing out support for legacy Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) boot mode. Intel products launching in 2020 are validated using Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Class 3 (compatibility support mode removed).

What I do see if I start up with a bootable usb plugged in (eg: a Windows install usb) is it listed and selectable under 'UEFI BOOT'. NB: a usb must be plugged in before you power up for it to appear in the F12 boot menu.

However, there is a bios setting that will prevent you seeing (or booting from) any usb in the F12 menu.

Enter the Bios Setup and look in System Configuration > USB Configuration. 'Enable USB Boot Support' must be ticked, if it is not then the bios will not look for a bootable usb and offer it in the F12 menu.

Bree’s suggestions allowed me to boot from a USB drive. Here’s a brief summary:
Secure Boot must be off. Default setting on my computer was Secure Boot on.
If necessary turn Secure Boot off as follows:
Press F12 repeatedly when starting computer until a screen with blue yellow, and white letters appears.
Go to Change Boot Mode Settings, and press enter. Secure boot is off.
    Cannot open Boot Menu-image.png
Go through two step to indicate you really want to make the change and press enter.
    Shut down computer.
Put boot flash drive in computer usb port.
    Restart computer, repeatedly pressing F12.

    Cannot open Boot Menu-image.png

My image had a Dell logo on the right side. Select UEFI: bios and press enter.

The computer will boot to the USB drive.

Dalchina: It's late, and I'll look into the slow startup issue tomorrow

Glad you got there in the end.

Some USBs will boot with Secure Boot on, others will not. It all depends on whether what you are trying to boot is digitally signed by a recognised authority. A Windows install USB made by the Media Creation Tool should boot while Secure Boot is turned on, for example.
