Want to get rid of picture

I'm sorry to be posting about a minor problem that is probably easily fixed, but I haven't been able to find a way to fix it.

When my computer starts or comes out of sleep mode, I am shown a full-screen picture of some geological formation in the Southwest. I don't want to see any pictures when I start my computer. I've looked through the settings files, but can't find a way to get rid of it. I have a new HP computer with Windows 10. Thanks.

Note: I did a search before I made this post and didn't find a help file that I thought addressed my issue.

Hi, have you looked through the Tutorial section? Do have a look- a plethora of professional quality illustrated guides you are free to browse and search.

Here are some I've found for you:
Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup
Turn On or Off Require Sign-in on Wakeup in Windows 10

Here's a helpful way to find things as there are so many - note how I've structured the search:
Want to get rid of picture-1.jpg

Or perhaps you still want the login screen and not the lock screen:
Enable or Disable Lock Screen in Windows 10
(but note the login screen normally also has some sort of picture or image and you said you didn't want that).

I don't want to bypass signing in. I just want to get rid of the stupid picture.

There is absolutely no need to waste time doing a search like that, the site search box at the top of the page is a custom google search box that just queries google in the same way as your screenshot, but cuts out the messing.

Thank you so much for your polite and helpful reply which so encourages people to respond helpfully.

Do you still need the lock screen? My post says how you can eliminate it.

You can also change the lock screen picture and there's a tutorial on how to set the sign-in screen picture to the same as that.

z3r010, the tutorial you sent me to is somewhat confusing, as follows:

DOWNLOAD -- [What is this .reg file that I am downloading? I need to know.]

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it. -- [What does it mean to merge a .reg file?]

    Thank you.

dalchina, was this a sarcastic comment?

This is the reg file and merge means that it changes the registry. You can do it yourself with the registry editor if you prefer.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
    "DisableLogonBackgroundImage"=dword:00000001

    Thank you, essenbe.

So it really takes a registry edit to get rid of the picture? It's hard to believe. Windows becomes less customizable with each new version.

    Okay, I'll following the tutorial.

If you want to keep the lock screen on wake up but just want to remove the picture from it, then turn off Spotlight.
