I don't know what kind of accounts you are talking about. Windows 10 seems to be tied into having a Microsoft account, but I don't know anything about that. One of the big changes between Windows 7 and Windows 10 is that you could work in Windows all day and forget that it was a Microsoft program. In Windows 10, they keep reminding you. I am a Microsoft hater going back to the days of DOS.

I have Windows 10 Pro, which came with the computer I got.

There are two account types in Windows 10, Administrator and Standard User. The Standard User can run applications and make certain changes which doesn't affect other users of that PC if any or even if not any, it's locked down to a certain extent to protect the system. The Administrator has full access to the system making changes which can affect global system changes and the ability to install new applications.

As you have stated that you have installed your picture editing program, I'll assume that your account must be using an Administrator account. The first account created is usually set as administrator as you'll need to set up the system. Hope that clarifies things on accounts.

I think the version of Windows you're on is an older version so you won't see the option to disable the picture as per my screenshot but I'm surprised that the registry tweak you downloaded and ran didn't work for you as it's what I used to do before that option was available in the more recent versions of Windows.

Guess you could try going into the Registry Editor to check whether or not the entry is there in your registry and if not, manually enter it or try merging again if you want to avoid doing it manually. There's of course checking updates and installing the latest version should you wish to do so and do make sure you're not upgrading to 11..

Sorry, I didn't know you meant administrator vs. standard user. Yes, I'm the administrator.

I will at some point go into the registry to see what it says. Maybe I ran the registry program in the wrong way, although it did give me some prompt saying that the registry had been changed.

I do have a Windows update waiting to be installed, but I haven't installed it yet because I keep putting my computer to sleep, and installing an update would close lots of programs that I keep open. I bought a pretty high-end workstation, but it was built in 2020. If Windows was also added in 2020, then it would indeed be an old build of Windows.

    Thanks for all your help.

The Windows update didn't give me that feature.

You're most welcome.... sorry to hear the update didn't provide you with that feature, maybe check the version you're running and see if it's the latest (21H1)

Where will I find that information? All I am finding is the computer model, not the Windows build.

If you right click the Start button and select 'system', the Windows version can be found under 'Windows specifications' or you could click on Start, then type 'winver' and open that.

Ok, so maybe this feature wasn't included with the 'Pro' version of windows.

Do you have the Home version?

One would think that the more expensive version would have more features. I would especially think that the Pro version should have that feature since the landscape pictures that Microsoft puts on the opening page have little to do with the business world. I mean, the rock formations are interesting to look at, but how do they relate to making a living?

Yes, I'm running Home version and surprised that the feature is missing this in pro. Maybe removed to restrict staff from making unnecessary changes. Had a quick look in Group Policy Editor and couldn't find anything in there which related to removing the background image in case they hid the setting in there.
