    Instanced Desktop shorcuts

Hello guys, maybe my question is really simple but I cant find any options to easily do this.

I want to have multiple instances of my desktop shortcuts I can switch over easily. I tried the built in Task view, that lets you create new instances of your desktop but it doesn't let you create a new instance of shortcuts, they just wont save to each instance. Is there an easy way to do this besides just creating a new user?

    Thanks very much

Probably need to explain a bit more exactly what/why you want, perhaps a hypothetical example.

Right click on the file/folder/picture you want to create a shortcut for, and then Send to Desktop (create shortcut), or near the bottom of right clicking you can just "Create shortcut". You can do that as many times as you want. I just made two shortcuts from one file. Once the shortcuts are there you can move them to where you want them, and even rename them.

Yea I probably explained it pretty bad. I use desktop shortcuts a lot, to be more organized and not let my desktop become a mess I would like to have a specific set of arranged shortcuts that I can switch over anytime when Im doing i.e video editing, then another instance of arranged shortcuts for when I´m studying etc. I know you can do this by just creating another user but maybe there was a simpler way.

Two things, one is that the Desktop is actually a folder in C:\Users in File Explorer, can't have 2 or more identical files or shortcuts of the same name. The other is on the right-click of the Taskbar, click Toolbars and put a check on Desktop, will get an item on the Taskbar when clicked will give a list of the shortcuts on the Desktop but will usually be a random list unless maybe the Desktop is sorted by name.

Maybe consider creating folders for each set of shortcuts required, in order to keep them in a desired order within the folder, rename each shortcut starting with "01 " "02 " etc.

In order to pin these folders to the taskbar, create a shortcut to these folders, then edit the properties of these folders inserting explorer.exe in front of the shortcut target, then save, this will allow you to right click and pin to taskbar. ie c:\users\user1\desktop\video will become explorer.exe c:\users\user1\desktop\video, if any spaces in the path, enclose the path with speech marks ie explorer.exe "c:\users\user 1\desktop\video"

Use Taskbar toolbar folders instead of your Desktop.

Then you can have all your video editing shortcuts in one subfolder, your studying shortcuts in another and so on.

Sounds like you might benefit by 3rd party programs like Objectdock and/or Rocketdock icon taskbars. there are freeware versions to try.

Payware versions give much greater options, if worth the value.
