    Settings>Privacy: Hidden or Managed

    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 21H1 (19043.1288)

I used WPD to modify privacy and telemetry settings. However, there were unexpected consequences. Many entries in the Settings App displayed "Some of these settings are hidden or managed by your organization".

I have confirmed with PolicyPlus that no policies are configured, so AFAIK the problem is not in group policies, but somewhere in the registry. I managed to fix Clipboard, Phone, Lock Screen, Advertising ID, Tailored experiences, and Feedback frequency with RegEdit. However, a few problems remain.

    * Diagnostic data: Using one of Brink's scripts (Send_optional_diagnostic_data.reg), the options (Required and Optional) are now available, but selecting Required does not persist and always returns to Optional.

    * Activity history: 'Store my activity history on this device' and 'Send my activity history to Microsoft' options are disabled. Can't find a fix.

    * Location: 'Allow access to location on this device' and 'Allow apps to access your location' options are disabled. Can't find a fix.

Did not realize that System Protection in System Restore is off by default, so performing a System Restore has not corrected these issues.

    Any help would be appreciated...

You can use O&O ShutUp10++ to set privacy settings to default.

"Factory Settings" fixed all issues but Clipboard and Activity History. However, it was easy to fix those too. No more hidden/managed restrictions in Settings.

    Thank you!

System restore points are generated rather irregularly in Win 10. If you wish, there's a tutorial that helps you create one on a schedule. I have one created daily.

Note too that restoration sometimes unexpectedly fails.

It has been the case that after a feature update (upgrade) some have found SR disabled again.

The routine and regular use of disk imaging is endlessly recommended here e.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid)+ large enough external storage.

These two complement one another very well.
