    W10 25 GB old file

Disc cleanup reveals a 25 GB file of W10 I recently upgraded to W11. Should I delete it since it is so huge space occupying dead file?

It sounds as if you may be referring to Windows.old.

If so, this should be automatically deleted 10 days after the upgrade (by default).
This file allows you to revert should you so wish.

If you wish to delete it manually there is a tenforums tutorial.

I actually prefer W10 but I am, for now, keeping W11 and it is growing on me. In case I decide to get back to W10, I probably would need this file for W10 installation? Would I be able to downgrade to W10 if I delete this file?

    Thank you for your reply.

    I said:

So unless you extend that timescale (tutorial available) you will lose the ability to revert once that file has been deleted by Windows.

After that the only way to have Win 10 running again is either to
    a. clean install it
    b. restore a disk image you had created of Win 10 before upgrading to Win 11.

If you delete the file you then have options (a) or (b).

(The routine and regular use of disk imaging is endlessly recommended by members - e.g. Macrium Reflect).
