    Bootrec / mbr /bdc problem ????


    I have been trying to make a recovery/rescue USB drive on a USB stick. I have tried burning both a Macrium based one and also a Windows Media Creation tool recovery USB. Both will not boot up properly and I think I have a problem with the bootrec fixboot/fixmbr/rebuildbdc functions. I get an error code 0xc0000001 which tells me I have a booting problem. Also. one time I noticed an error code 0xc0000098

    I have looked up how to repair these things but all the tips say that I need to restart my PC from a recovery disk or drive. So there lies the problem - the recovery drives I have put in on USB are not recognised.

    So, my question is: is there a way to repair these functions WITHOUT having a bootable recovery drive????

    There are methods that may work in some computer environments.

    For example:
    Move the drive to an empty bay of another computer > run commands on the problematic drive
    Move the drive to a hardware enclosure > run commands on the problematic drive
    Boot to the recovery environment on the installed Windows partition > run startup repair, system restore, regback, etc.

    Create Recovery Drive in Windows 10
    Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10
    Troubleshoot Windows 10 failure to boot using Recovery Environment
    Run Startup Repair in Windows 10
    System Restore Windows 10
    Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect
    Use Macrium Reflect Rescue Media to Fix Windows Boot Issues
    Enable Automatic Backup of System Registry when Restart in Windows 10


    If none of the above works then consider these options:

    Custom Install Windows 10
    Clean Install Windows 10

    If the problematic computer is HP then test the hardware using the on board or bootable HP diagnostics.

    Did you make a bootable Macrium Reflect Rescue USB from another PC? Confirm it boots on a different PC if possible. Very handy to have.
