Unable to add columns and save the view in File Explorer

I am unable to save the view after adding columns in my Win10 Pro File Explorer. (Version 10.0.19043.1266)

I add a column by clicking in the column headers, select a new column or two, arrange them the way I want, then go to VIEW and click on the OPTIONS icon on the ribbon, then CHANGE FOLDER AND SEARCH OPTIONS. But the APPLY TO FOLDERS and RESET FOLDERS buttons at the top of the VIEW tab are grayed out.

Is there something in the Advanced Settings that I should check or uncheck to achieve the intended result? I have tried clicking RESTORE DEFAULTS, but this has not changed the grayed out buttons.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Does this happen in all folders, or just in that one?

    Maybe check this thread.

Reset Folder View Settings to Default in Windows 10

In the first page are regular methods to change view, and on the last page some additional info

Unable to save view in File Explorer

    Thank you AndreTen.

I read the article you provided link to. I ran the batch file, which gave me 2 "completed" messages and 2 error messages. I didn't bother to figure out what got changed and what didn't, but went directly to my folders, and they all got reset. I was able to make some changes in the VIEW/OPTIONS/CHANGE FOLDER & SEARCH OPTIONS. The APPLY TO FOLDERS and RESET buttons were NOT grayed out, and I was able to save the changes to my folders.

Not sure why, but before I made the changes mentioned in the previous paragraph, when I right clicked in the File Explorer on the folder in question, I never saw "Customize..." in the context menu.

But in the long run, I was able to resolve the problem.

Thanks for demystifying this for me.
