How can I increase size of "Recent Files" list in Windows Explorer?

    Hello

How do I increase the number of files listed in "Recent Files" when I first open Windows Explorer (in Window 10 x64)?

It is currently set to 20.

    Background:
I tried using REGEDIT to create a "JumpListItems_Maximum" entry within
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
    but it has no effect.

    With thanks

I don't know of a way- you can set the number of items in a jump list, but that's different.

    Free ways to get more:
Qttabbar adds many features to file explorer, including recent items:

whilst Listary can be used with a wider range of dialogues, and from the tray.
One of its features is a recent items list.

There are other ways of adding such features e.g. extra buttons on the title bar.

OK, so you used the Tutorial . . .

    > How to Change Maximum Number of Items in Jump Lists in Windows 10

Did you remember to Restart Explorer, or Sign-Out and Sign-In to Apply.?

Yes, I completely rebooted my Windows PC.
I just tried using the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" version instead so that ALL users of the PC should be affected, but nope... it does not work either.

I was about to say "no thanks, I don't want to install anything" (because I don't want to learn any new apps) but then I discovered that I already have Listary installed! In fact could Listary be the problem?!

Please can you tell me how/where Listary control the number of Recent Files, because I can't find it.

    Many thanks

I'm not sure what Listary does, but the JumpListItems_Maximum edit only affects the number of items seen in the File Explorer JumpList, which is seen when you right-click the File Explorer icon on the Taskbar.

But I think you're talking about the Recent FIles section of the Quick Access folder.

    Can you clarify, please?

Agreed- recent files. None of the tutorials appear to address that.

The programs I suggested provide extensive recent files lists.
Rather cleverly in the case of Qttabbar.

But no response despite prompt so clearly no interest. I'm out.

I haven't found a way to increase the number of Recent Files shown in Quick Access, but you can create a Recent Files folder that can have more that 20 entries (mine has 50) and have it appear in the Navigation Pane:

If the OP or anyone else is interested, I will post details.

Yes I am talking about what you see in File Explorer when you go to the Quick Access folder.

i.e. When I first open File Explorer, it defaults to showing Quick Access.
This consists of "Frequent Folders (10)" and then underneath it is "Recent Files (20")

I would like to increase Frequent Folders to 15 and Recent Files to say 30. This is partly because I have a high res (4K) screen.
