Computer Sleep Option Missing in Settings

The Settings Power and Sleep menu in Settings should list Screen and Sleep, where Sleep is used to tell when the PC goes to sleep. Sleep is missing, so my computer never sleeps. Fast startup and Hibernate are not enabled.

I used Tutorial Add or Remove Sleep in Power menu in Windows 10 to change the registry while in administrative mode, but sleep still is not seen.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FlyoutMenuSettings now lists :1: It was 0 before the change.

I cannot get a large image, so will type
    Default REG_SZ (value not set)
    ShowHibernate REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (0)
    ShowLockOption REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (1)
    ShowLockOption REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (1)

I used Option 3 to add sleep using the Group Policy Editor. The steps seemed to work fine, but sleep is still missing.

I’m using a “new” refurbished Dell T3500 workstation with mbr running the current version of win10. I have a number of these computers, and the other all have the normal sleep mode .

    Any suggestions? Jim

You can restore the default power schemes using a command through the Command Prompt.

    1. Click on the Start button and type cmd. Right-click on Command Prompt when it appears and select Run as administrator.
    2. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and hit Enter to execute:

    Code:
    powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
    3. On successful execution, open the Power menu to see if the Sleep mode is accessible.

    Jim,

Compare the display driver on this computer with the others.

FreeBooter: Your suggestion did not help, unfortunately.

Try3: Where do I find the display driver?

    Right-click on the Start button,
    Device manager,
    Display adapters,
Double-click on your display adapter's name,
    Driver tab.

    Compare between your computers:
    - Display adapter's name
    - Driver provider
    - Driver date
    - Driver version

    All the best,

    Hi Dennis:
All my Dell T3500's were refurbished item purchases, all have video cards, like a Radeon HD 4550. I'm not a gamer, so these old cards are more than adequate. Would video card driver issues actually affect the computer sleep mode?

The video card that came with the computer (AMD Radeon 7000 series) does not provide the resolution I need for some of my monitors so I have ordered a another card. It is the same card used in another T3500 that works fine.

With a weekend and no Amazon Prime, it will take a few days to arrive. I'll leave this thread open until it is installed.

    Thanks for your help. Jim

    Understood.

When you said that I wrongly assumed you meant that they all had the same hardware.
I expected that you'd find the problem computer had merely installed a default MS display driver and that the others had the correct [OEM, Windows 10] driver.
I would never expect Sleep to be unavailable with the correct driver being used.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
