Downloads folder opening a little slow

    hello,

on ONE of my 2 Asus computers, the Downloads folder opens a little slow - like 1 second. Subsequent loads open instantly. The laptop in question has a very fast SSD and is a fast machine in general so that's a bit odd.

    What i tried:

    - right click on Downloads folder and Customise > General items (although already checked) and then apply all folders.
    - change view settings, with the Group by - oddly enough if that's enabled, but that's an awful view, then opens instantly every time
    - rebuilt indexing
    - Folder pictures restore defaults

While not a massive issue a little annoying. How can i reset the Downloads folder? there must be a way.

Does it depend by Windows Defender scanning everything i have in there? I experienced some programs were being stopped due to the Protected folders that i need to allow every time. (/Documents etc)
Does it depend by WHAT programs and downloads i have in there? I have maybe 50 files or something, not more.

    thanks,
    Gabrio

It is not the number of files, but if there are any large ones. zip, or ISO files are most problematic, as Windows defender scans them, so extract.. etc

Move those large archives somewhere else, if they are useful and you have to keep them

yep forgot to update you guys, i did tests moving files one by one then restart like 20 times. In the end i moved a bunch of .zip files for a program, not even too big, and now opens in a flash. Guess he didn't like those .zip archives or something.

Defender is checking those files over and over again... I have no problem unless there are ISO files there

i've also found the Folders protection of WD extremely intrusive, it blocked some programs i am running for work, which save into /Documents, you need to always remember and add an exemption, then it works well.

This is supposed to be this way.. Can't fight ransomware if the process is automated ... But you can disable it (not recommended, if you ask me)
