Curiosity Windows App open on Desktop prevents actions

This is more of a curiosity thing instead of a problem. I am try to understand why Windows 10 would prevent an action.

Today I was working on photo application. I usually am also using Google Chrome at the same time. I tried to go down to the taskbar and to switch from Windows file mode to Web mode. I notice the taskbar was not floating. I had to just minimize Chrome to go back to the photo application. Then I noticed on the Desktop that the Windows Accessories program calculator was open.
Once I closed that application then the taskbar started working properly.

I would like to understand why Windows 10 prevented the taskbar from floating.

TIA for any assistance in this area.

I'm not sure what you mean by "floating" and I don't know why having the calculator open would affect the taskbar but did you try holding the Alt key down while clicking Tab to scroll through the open windows?
FWIW, I almost never use the taskbar to switch from one window to another. I've just about worn out my Alt key from using keyboard shortcuts...

When you go to the bottom of the screen and the taskbar is "sitting". It is either static or locked in place. Or dynamic or "floating". If I move the mouse away from the taskbar the taskbar "disappears".

That still does tell me anything about interference with the calculator and the taskbar. We have different operating styles. I do use certain shortcuts but as long as the mouse functions I tend to stick with using it to move around windows.

    Thanks anyway for responding.

Ah, you are referring to the taskbar's "automatically hide" feature (AKA auto hide).

I'm no expert but I think some programs have an "always on top" setting and maybe a glitch in something like that may have contributed to your problem.

I wasn't telling you not to use your mouse and taskbar to move between windows, just offering an alternative that might work if it happens again.

    Ok thanks for your suggestion.
There are a lot of shortcuts and when my last computer was on it's way to dying
I had to use some. It is what you get use too. I been screwing around with "PC" computer since 1984
I remember the DOS days. Not really wishing to go back to that time period.
Things are easier to work with now GUI's have made life so much easier.

It happened again just a while ago. I have several windows accessories on my taskbar because I use them frequently.

Anyway thanks again Maybe someone else will give me a clue. What usually happens the calculator gets chosen in fullscreen
mode on the desktop and the taskbar autohide feature disappears.
