    Recent windows 10 freezing

I recently bought a refurbished Dell Latitude E6510 laptop with the following: Intel Core I5-520M, Upto 2.9GHz, 8G DDR3, 480G SSD, DVDRW, WiFi, VGA, DP, Win 10 64 Bit-Multi Language Suppport English/Spanish/French(CI5)

It was working great until about the last couple of weeks when it begins freezing up hard. I only bought this to watch movies on, and the movies freeze up in every player. I added VLC media player on it when I first got it. Everything was working great until recently.

Here's how it acts when I have to force shut down:
Re-installs programs that have been uninstalled
    returns deleted files
desktop picture disappears leaving a black screen only

I'm not that tech saavy, so anything advice will help. Thank you!!

Try a Clean Boot. If that works, you can leave it that way, or you can add one Service or Startup item at a time until the computer starts freezing, then you will know the culprit.

Thanks, but I did do a clean boot, and the problem seemed to be a lot worse after.

Look in Reliability History for reports covering the freezing. The ---view tech details---should give usable information in lines 1 & 2.
Also check ---dxdiag---for any entries and in the Display page, note the driver version details and visit the maker's site only and download that driver,or later if available.
In Device Manager, select ---Display Adapter---and right click on it and use the uninstall/install options to change to the new driver.
It might also be of use to run---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth---to fix any file corruption.

Thank you. I tried doing these things, but nothing seemed to jump out at me as a warning. I went on to the Dell site, and it said "Windows 10 is not supported on this product" I have a Dell Latitude E6510. I'm wondering if I could roll it back to Windows 7. I never had these problems with 7, and I don't go online much, just watch videos.

When Dell says "Windows 10 not supported" they likely mean new drivers. Your system should run Windows 10 fine. Win7 is no longer supported and would be a security risk and may not play videos properly.

Considering the symptoms you describe in original post, recommend to backup your files and do clean install on Win10 (above link). Use the Tutorial Section in the headline above the forum for further info.

Thanks for this, I just might have to do this. Fortunately everything is already backed up.
