HowTo? Link to pdf document on Taskbar

I had it running perfectly well until a few days ago: link on Taskbar took me directly to a doc.pdf. Very useful for quick reference.
Then (I think; might be wrong) there was an Adobe update. The link stopped working. I cannot remember how I set it up.
I removed the link and tried to rebuild. Both of:
    1. R click on filename in Explorer, set up Desktop shortcut. Drag that shortcut to Taskbar
    2. Select document in Explorer. Drag to Taskbar
fail identically! The pinned item exists, but just takes me to Adobe, not to the actual document.
    How To? Thank you!

    19033.1237 (same):

I use Sumatra as my reader- don't see why there should be a difference. If I drag a shortcut to a pdf doct to the taskbar, then use that, the document opens in Sumatra.

When I drop it on the taskbar, the jumplist for Sumatra is displayed.
If I right click the shortcut, again, the jumplist for Sumatra is displayed.

The pinned item exists, but just takes me to Adobe
    - do you mean the Adobe web site open in a browser- or something else?

Do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and set as your default reader?

    Hey, Fergus!

    Here's what I did:
Select the document (a .pdf) in File Explorer, right-click and choose Send To > Desktop (Create Shortcut). Drag Desktop shortcut to taskbar with right mouse button, release button, choose Copy Here. Delete desktop icon. Now right-click icon on taskbar icon, and click document name in pop-up menu.

Left click on icon in taskbar opens my PDF reader, as yours does. It's the right-click menu that works the desired way.

Now, if you wish, you can add more documents to the icon's right-click menu by repeating the original process, but right-dragging the desktop icon to the PDF-reader taskbar icon, and choosing Pin to (Name of Icon).

Try it and let us know, please.

    Fergus,

You can do it by jobbing the shortcut manually.
1 Create a shortcut to the pdf file of interest
2 Right-click on the shortcut & select Properties
3 In its Target field insert, before the path to the pdf file, the path to your pdf application [enclosed in " because it will contain spaces] and then click on OK. For example,
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\FoxitReader.exe" D:\Desktop\TestFile.pdf

4 Right-click on the shortcut and pin it to the Taskbar.

5 Click on the Taskbar icon and the desired pdf file opens.

Create a shortcut to open a pdf at a designated page

For all pdf reader applications except Edge, you can also set a shortcut to open a pdf file at a specific page.

In my post #4 above, at my step 3:
Insert the desired page number into the Target field using the syntax shown. For example [using page 5],
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\FoxitReader.exe" /A page=5 "D:\Desktop\TestFile.pdf"

You can do this for any pdf file shortcut whether you intend to pin it to the Taskbar or not.

Nobody had identified any method of doing this with Edge the last time I searched [a few months ago].
