They say you get what you pay for. But with home laptops, priced at around half that of a business laptop, you don't get half. You get the merest fraction. These laptops are preparing to break down the moment you open the box. Abysmal.
I bought a HP ProBook 450 G6 2 years ago which is a business range model. The price was much the same as consumer models with a similar spec but it was shipped with Windows 10 Pro and good on site support. I'm thinking about "home" laptops that range from $400 and up ... vs. business laptops that start at $1000.
I've never had luck with any laptop in the former category.
But with the high-priced units you get years of trouble-free performance.

I tried Linux Mint Xfce 20.1 on VBox With one CPU and 1G ram and was very suprised how it goes.
I also choosed the lowest hardware standards availlable.
Further more I think that it has a very workable Desktop with a completely decent Software suite, supporting the latest of Firefox/VLC/FileZilla etc etc... and a super nice community answering at the other end.
Above all, the installation was seemless and was able Bring the interface to my taste in less than a day. (And I'm not Linux savy at all)... On one cpu with one gig of ram...
You could put a 64 gig SSD in there and do everything you want with Minth.
Thanks @RickC... I have tried a lots of Puppy linux and distros all around, but this one is really something.
