Hard Drive\Non-Hard Drive Question - How Much Space ?

I have a lot of hard drives on quite a few pc's. I have always read that you should keep a minimum of 15% of free space on any hard drive, which I do on all of my hard drives (7 I think).

I recently bought a LIVA MINI-PC and instead of a hard drive, it comes with "eMMC" storage which is some sort of solid-state storage. It came with this storage over 95% capacity used.

So my question is: On this kind of storage, does the "15% minimum free space" rule apply ? Why or why not ?

The 15% refers to a drive that contains an OS like Windows which seems to be growing every day
Normal drives will become more slow when they are nearly full but there is no real problem when there are just a few percentages of space left.

Your Liva Mini PC will cause you major issues if the system drive is already nearly full
    Windows (7 / 8 / 10) are VERY disk space hungry
Normally it grows with nearly 10% each YEAR....

    So.... my advise.
if you want to run Windows on your Liva..... go back to the store now and demand a disk that is at least 2x the size

    Good luck

The LIVA MINI PC doesn't come with a hard drive. As I said, it comes with a solid-state storage thingy in place of the hard drive. Windows 10 was pre-installed on it, and the eMMC storage is like over 90% full as it came from the factory. so does the 15% rule apply to eMMC storage or not ?

for a PC it makes no real difference it it's Msata SSD / SSD / harddrive
Windows (also 10) will grow over time and with ONLY Windows 10 now installed.... you will run into trouble within months if not weeks.
Automatic update will change settings (specially now, in the beginning) a lot and this all will take up "data" space
The computer does not care if you are on SSD or harddrive.... it needs storage space on the system "drive"

But I guess you already knew this answer :)

Just a guess as I don't know the Liva but perhaps the built in storage is just for the operating system and anything else has to go on external storage. If the Win OS is taking up 90% then you have a problem !

    Take it back !

Exactly what I tried to say but with some tech explanation to it.
If only the Operating System (Windows 10) already takes up 90% of the storage space.... you are in serious trouble.

I guess the total storage is 20GB at this moment?
My SSD is 128GB and is already half full whereby I store all my data on other drives and all non essential programs are installed on another than the system drive also.

over time Windows will soon grow beyond 32GB easily
So.... I repeat :) demand a storage that is at least 2x the size or..... simply return it
you can also keep it and put a Linux distro on it (8GB)
Linux is faster than any Windows version :)

    Good luck
